YOUlU FOR UNJDEROTNDfNO PRjCMDGC WOimWJLB EXPERIENCE The goal of Youth for Understanding is to develop involved, cultural relation- ships with foreign countries through their youth. YFU believes that, for a teenager, a relationship such as this is best achieved by placing him in a for- eign family. This helps him to under- stand the language, customs, politics, and social life of the people of the country. This is the most important aspect of YFU and really what YFU is all about. This year’s foreign exchange stu- dents are Joost Bremer from the Neth- erlands and Eliane Silva and Fernando Kawall, both from Brazil. Last summer Dawn Adams lived with a family on the island of Okinawa. Their annual events include the Band Bounce, District Festival, Solo and Ensemble Competition, the Turkey Dinner, and also the many football and basketball games both home and away. The community always enjoys the parades with their fancy dance steps. AD UINfCTRAnON, ANO ClAFF 95 CCNOOL BOARD INMATES POLICIES The Charlotte School Board is organized to provide an effective educational program for the area. They must arrange for their policies to be carried out through their executive officer, the superintendent. The School Board also adopts a financial budget which will keep facilities, personnel, and conditions consistent with expected results. The School Board started the year comfortably in the black. They were proud this year to have the lowest student-teacher ratio ever and 54 students participating in High School Vocation Education, Lansing Community College, and Lansing Vocation programs. They were able to have the High School parking lot paved, with some financial help from Student Council. For those who need some special help there are now kindergarten through twelfth grade reading specialists and a special room for emotionally impaired children. And for the elementary students there are now full time adult librarians at each school and a vocal music program that extends through the eighth grade. MR. I would like to thank Miss Alfrava Latham for her assistance throughout the year, the CHARHIAN staff for their hard work, Reed's and Morton's studios for many of the pictures, Mr. Gordon Toyzan for the cover and divider page designs, Steve Post for stepping in at the last minute to become photographer, and the teachers and students at CHS for their cooperation. I am very proud to be a member of the Class of '74 and I wish the underclassmen the best of luck for the future. I hope we have captured in the CHARHIAN a few of the memorable moments of the '74 school year. After witnessing this small portion of our life it becomes just a memory. But it inspires us to plan for the future with confidence. Carla Schroth, 1 974 CHARHIAN Editor V - • .VALaS ■ - • . XJ1 u. . .1
