This is the aim of the ’68 CHARHIAN staff in creating a hook to meet these requirements—one that will bring happiness and a pleasant reminder of the past year at C.H.S. We are reminded of guidance and counseling by a competent faculty and administration; co-operation and participation in school activities; pleasure in many exciting sports; respect and compatibility by energetic underclassmen; and completion of a job well-done by dignified seniors. The story of C.H.S., 1968, can be read not only in the actions or events of the year but, most important of all, in the faces of the students and faculty themselves. Happiness is: 4 5 C.H.S. Table of MR. ELWOOD LARSEN The administration of Charlotte Public Schools is handled by two very capable men, Mr. Elwood Larsen and Mr. John Smith. As superintendent, Mr. Larsen han- dles the yearly budget for the entire school system and represents the school system at many local activities. Mr. Smith’s day is filled by checking all buildings and grounds, mapping the bus routes and providing ma- terials for the cafeterias. 8 MR. JOHN SMITH MR. JAMES H. CHAMPION Mr. Janies Champion’s smile and open door have greatly changed the student-principal relationship during his two years at C.H.S. Some of his duties include handling discipline problems and scheduling classes, teachers and extra activities. We ap- preciate all the things he has done for C.H.S. such as adding the new intercom system. MR. MALCOLM COREL The position of assistant high school principal has been filled this year by Mr. Malcolm Gobel. Among his duties, Mr. Gobel is in charge of attendance and is the advisor for Student Council. Mr. Gohel is also the C.H.S. athletic director. 9 Men of Action The responsible men of the Charlotte School Board devote many hours to im- proving our school system. They have embarked on many new projects this year such as the building of the new high school, which is scheduled for completion in December of 1969. From left: Mr. Dwight Haines, trustee; Mr. Carl Schroth, trustee; Mr. Samuel A. Combs, trustee; Mr. Jack Young, president; Mr. C. L. The Guidance Department demonstrates these factors by helping students with school curriculum and helps all the seniors in college acceptance and job training. Co-operative job training gives a senior the practical experience of working while attending school. Headed by Mr. Don Smith this program is developing each year. Many tools of knowledge are found in our library. The librarians are willing to help the students so that they may advance academically. While some are not so pleasant, one will never be able to forget the excitement of starting high school as freshmen, ordering class rings as sophomores, our first prom as juniors and last but not least our graduation. We have changed from young, inexperienced adolescents to mature young adults, ready to face the world with new and better ideas, hoping to succeed where others before us have failed. 24 DONALD LEE ANDREWS Don Tennis 1, 2 Football 1, 2 Student Council 3 Co-op 4 MARTY JO AARDEMA Marty Los Amigos 3 Pep Club 3, 4 Ski Club 3, 4 Class Treasurer 4 CHARLENE ANNE ARMSTRONG Char Les Reveurs 1, 2 F.H.A. 2 Junior Prom Committee SANDRA ROSE ARNDT Sandy CHARHIAN 3, 4 Co-op 4 CARY PAUL AYOTTE Mad Dog Football 1, 2, 4 Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4 ALAN RALPH BAIRD Ralph Student Council 1, 3, 4 MUNA 2, 4; Committee Chairman 3 National Honor Society 3, 4 CHARHIAN 3, 4 Football 1 Basketball 1 Golf 1, 2, 3, 4 Wolverine Boys’ State 3 Los Amigos 2, 3, 4 Ski Club 1, 2, 3, 4 Forensics 2 Junior Prom Committee Junior Play Committee 25 LINDA RAE BAIRD F.H.A. 1 Les Reveurs 2, 3 Charlaqucttes 3, 4 Footlighteers 3, 4 Junior Play Committee Junior Prom Committee Ski Club 4 Co-op 4 GAIL A. Any person who will put in this much time for today’s youth and enjoys doing this has to he dedicated to the boys and his profession as a coach. This page is in honor of our Coaches. These men work with insufficient equipment and their work schedules are not very easy to follow. The time these men should devote to their families is usually spent working with the boys and other coaches so that the students of our school can say that we have one of the best athletic programs around.
