This was awarded after she sent them her recommendations and qualifications as language instructor. The scholar- ship enabled her to travel Europe studying the customs of the people and the studies of the children. Miss Hughes has traveled to many scefiic spots in France, Spain. England. Italy, and the Isle of Capri. Some of these spots were the Eiffel Tower, the world-famous Cathedral in Milan and while she was here she saw the original painting of “The Last Supper.” Wandering around the ruins of Pompeii, she con- tacted a wig of volcanic dust. Miss Hughes has enjoyed many new experiences in her travels. One was eating octopus and rice in a little Spanish restaurant. Another was sipping tea around a burning pan of charcoal placed under the table, a quaint Spanish custom. While in Europe, Miss Hughes has taken many pictures and made movies of her travels abroad. Next fall Miss Hughes will again be back in Charlotte teaching. 49 £t Ucthf, 9ndt U4Jft 4italn The Percussion Section consists of (front row L. to R.): G. Bosworth, P. Parker, J. Wilds.
