hurdles whlle Dean Carey also took two flrsts m the 100 and 220 yard dashes Other fxrst places for Charlotte were Bob Potter half m1le Char les Hale mlle Amos Weaver shot put Ken Olmstead quarter m11e Hlghlanders The local qumtet w1th a record of one w1n and one loss stepped Johnson broad Jump Murray Stall shot put Weaver Next the local thmclads met Grand Ledge and l1terally ran away w1th the meet Th1s also was a mght meet The placxngs were good The Or1oles started rlght out w1th three places m the hlgh hurdles f1rst Bruce second Wensley and th1rd Sherd F1rst m the medley relay were Stall Pentecost Darllng and Johnson Dean Carey was second 1n the 100 yard dash Charlle Hale took sec ond ln the mxle run Amos Weaver placed second ID the 440 yard run Bruce Wensley and Mayhew placed f1rst second and third respectlvely IH the 180 yard low hurdles Dean Carey took second 1n the 220 yard dash Bob Potter was f1rst and Roger Nelson th1rd 1n the 880 yard run S u Southworth and Harry Thomas tled for f1rst 1n the pole vault Amos Weaver and Dale Pratt were f1rst and th1rd 1n the shot put Chuck Sherd and Stu South worth tled for f1rst and John Borgman Duane Carey Amos Weaver and Roger Nelson all tled for th1rd ln the hlgh Jump Flrst and second place 1n the broad Jump were Bob Johnson and Murray Stall The score was 71 2X3 to 37 1!3 Sum Up Closely 8 9 out to glve the Grand Ledge Comets a beatmg 52 38 The score doubled on the Comets at the half 2412 Joe lauch was hxgh scorer for the Isaacmen w1th 20 markers Lakevxew Hands Defeat The Or1oles were outclassed by Lakevlew who had no trouble scormg and were beaten by the experlenced team 71 40 Th1s was a runaway from the start Wlth the home team dragg1ng beh1nd Charlotte really started hlttlng the hoop 1n the Eaton Rap1ds contest on the home court mark mg the th1rd Cap1tol C1rcu1t v1c tory for the local f1ve The boys held down the Greyhounds sec ond per1od rally and then ran all over them 1n a 21 po1nt th1rd per1od rally to take an easy 64 39 vlctory John Betty was hlgh 1n d1v1dual scorer w1th 26 pomts The V1k1ngs salled to vlctory 50 39 over Charlotte on e Everett floor The Orange and Black started Wlth a 30 lead then the V1k1ngs took thelr course and put the locals on the spot for the Cap1tol C1rcu1t t1tle lead John Betty agam led ln scorlng w1th 15 pomts Isaacmen Top Mason End1ng the f1rst half of the 1951 52 season the Mason Bull dogs suffered the1r f1rst defeat of the year The encounter was played on the Or1ole court w1th the locals coming through ln the last few mmutes of the game to vlctory 42 38 ThlS w1n put the home team 1n a t1e for f1rst place w1th Mason Th1s was one of the best games played all season Top scorers were John Bettv and Wally Bruce w1th 14 pomts each W1th a 38 33 w1n over Howell the Isaacmen stepped 1nto f1rst place 1n the Cap1tol C1rcu1t race The Or1ole fxve dlsplayed a de termlned aggresslve Splflt com mg from behlnd to defeat the veteran Howell team The v1c tory was the fnth 1n slx league starts Hlgh scorer for both 24 teams was John Betty who racked up 19 pomts Wm Second Ledge Game When the Or1oles met the Ledgers for the second tlme ln league play they stepped out and gave the Grand Ledge team a shellacklng 57 35 for they had no trouble at all that nlght 1n flnd 1ng the loop For the second year m suc cesslon the local basketeers met the East Lansxng TroJans who set them back w1th a score of 29 26 John Betty was hlgh scorer for the nlght On the Eaton Rap1ds court the team met a second league de feat 1n a closely fought game whlch left the Or1oles on the short end of a heatbreakmg 47 46 score Everett on Top The th1rd defeat was handed down by a hard f1ght1ng Everett team The f1rst half was played on even terms ne1ther team h1t tmg therr strxde The Lansmg team flnally came out on the long end 37 32 Wxth three semors on the start mg l1ne up for the f1rst tlme th1s year the Orange and Black was determmed to w1n but lost the half tlme lead ln the th1rd per1od and could not recover It For the fourth t1me th1s season the Cap1tol C1rcu1t team was not able to w1n a non league game and the score stood Hastmgs 46 Charlotte 37 Mason Game Jonah In one of the welrdest games ever the Mason Bulldogs de feated the Charlotte flVe 56 to 55 At the end of the half the score board read 25 to 22 1n tavor of the Or1oles W1th a ten pomt lead the locals started to march toward vlctory but then the fireworks started Wlth four mmutes to play John Betty fouled out to leave only four men on the floor W1th1n another mmute J1m Young followed w1th Murray Stall followlng hlm J1m Carr and Ken Olmstead where the only two Charlotte players on the floor for the remamder of the game The fellows were unable to hold agamst f1ve and the contest ended 56 to 55 Dxstnct Tournaments In the tournament drawmgs the home squad drew Grand Ledge whxle Mason drew Hast xngs The Or1oles got off to a good start by beatmg by a score 57 to 37 Next the Charlotte fxve met up w1th Mason who had beaten Hastmgs 51 to 50 Playmg on even terms most of the game the local cagers defeated the Bulldogs 51 to 43 to become Class B dlstrxct champ1ons and el1g1ble for the reg1onals at Alblon where they played Lakevlew John Betty and Wally Bruce led ln scormg for the Or1oles w1th 17 and 13 LakeVl6W started rlght out and was h1tt1ng the loop well from start to stop and was rmgmg
