This year's season was dedicated to the memory of Jeff Drenth, who gave coaching, friendship, and provided an example for all the members of the team. The boys pushed their number of consecutive dual wins to 54. ln the process they won the Petoskey, Claire Martin, and Shepherd lnvitationals. Two of the big three meets, Conference and Regional, were won by the boys. Five members were All-Regional: Pat Rejewski, Kevin Mctenon, Joe Simpson, Gehry Wiesner, and Scott Miller, At the State Meet in Cass City, they finished as Runner-up with lunior Pat Rajewski gaining All-State Honors. Two freshmen, Miller and Wiesner, made very important contributions and have promising futures with the team. Team Captain Doug Bergmann undefeated until injured late in the year, was able to return for the State Meet and added his talent to the end of a successful season. The girls improved over last year. High placings in invitationals were a 2nd at Petoskey, lst at Claire Martin, and 2nd at Sheperd. They won the Conference Title with Betsy, Michelle, and Heidi All-Conference. At the Regional Meet, they were fourth, eight points from qualifying for the State Meet. Co-captain Michelle North made All-Regional, and along with lunior Betsy Haggard qualified for the State individual run. Although Betsy was plagued by an injury, she ran strong at Regionals after leading the team all fall. Our lunior Varsity Team showed much depth which hints at a promising future. Graduating seniors include Co-captains Doug Bergmann and Michelle North, Maria Parsons, loe Simpson, Kevin McLenon and Harold Herriman. fi 57: ka .gy X P ff he if kg? xg if if H 4041! .1 8-I ty 4 v 'Y 1 I, Fm N 'i 19 , x ft 'J'-1' I1 Q I Q E ,wa-L Y' . A new tradition was started at CHS in 1985-86, a football game that only girls may play in. The game is played at the end of the regular boy's football season, and it is the senior girls against the underclassmen girls. This year the game was a rough one. The girls really meant business when they were on the field. Believe it or not, the seniors were defeated with a score of 8-6. The girls who didn't participate really missed an experience. The school spirit was high, and the girls did a GREAT job. By: Nikki Kurchinski 84 W. 'Y am. J di' uk-.u ix ,J Q E N i .A ' I W K '4 P iii? ak- 'Q x , v N ,- , ,a 5 . .' K .1 XA, 'I 1 br 1. .7-r if!! During the week, CHS students were involved in special activities preparing tor Friday's big event. This year the hall decorations took the theme ot Childhood Fantasies, and even though most ot them didn't stay up very long, they all looked very nice. The Seniors placed first with their whimsical version of The Castle ot Stars. The Juniors took first place with their awesome Rayder Rap skit and an overall tirst place in Spirit Week. Amy McKinney and Doug Bergmann were crowned King and Queen during halftime. Their crowns were presented by the 1986 King and Queen, Tim Plagge and Stacey Way. Other court members included Lori Gleason, Karl Erber, Valerie Barnes, Jim Ciuk, Paul Anderson, Kim Swan, Jamey Spencley, and Jessica Moreno. Following our 64-44 victory over Rogers City, the traditional Homecoming Dance took place at the Elementary School cap- ping ott an exciting evening. .L-I Crown Bearers Colleen Gleason and Jonathan Sell.
