They took the 1977 Michigan Hmon Shores Conference Championship and placed 2nd in the Regional Competition which qualified them for the State Finals. This is the fourth straight year the team has competed in the State Finals, and this year they finished in tenth position. 4. Freshmen Football It was a rough and tough season for the players of the freshmen football team. Injuries, close games, fumbles, interceptions and penalties decided the outcome of many games. Improvement during the season was steady. The boys played better and enthusiasm remained. Country r 0 s s fu at B Q This year's Rayder cross country team started their season in early August and kept up their increasingly hard practices until the first meet. From the first meet on the team showed their abilities, winning all but on dual and going into the conference as a close favorite with three other schools. The conference meet was expected to be very close but the team had different ideas and ran away with the first Charlevoix title by twenty points . They later went on to win both the E.R. and Gaylord invitationals. The Rayder team then traveled to Regionals where they placed second, which qualified them for State .
