He was on the all-con- ference and all-oppon- ents first teams. Tom Swanson Tom was also elected co-captain for the year. He played tackle and was very good on de- fense. He was on the all-state first team and the all-conference and all-opponents second teams. John Connolly John played tackle and was a very fine blocker. He always had a hole for the runner to go through. John was named to the all-opponents first team and received honorable mention on the all-con- ference team. Tom Erber Tom switched from guard to fullback this year and proved to be an excellent runner. Tom was always willing to go through the line for that first down. Mike Elzinga Mike switched from guard to halfback, and was a very hard runner imtil he injured his leg in the Harbor Springs game. Jack Stebe Jack played center and offense. He was a very hard worker and was es- pecially good on downfield blocking. Joe Powell Joe played guard and de- fense. He missed a couple of games because of a leg injury, but when he was there nobody went through the center of the line. Joe received honor- able mention on the all- opponents teams. Eugene Towsley Gene played defensive end and stopped everything that came around his end. Gene and Joe Powell's arguments kept the team spirit up. Jerry Foster Jerry played guard and was a very good defensive play- er, a hard worker, and was always willing to step in and do his share. Jerry Shupert Jerry came to us from South Bend, Indian, This year. He did not have time to become a regular, but he was very fast and was on the receiving team. Robert Albright Enie played halfback on offense and linebacker on defense. Enie saw a lot of action on defense and was also a hard run- ner. Joe McD ermott Joe was a very outstand- ing runner in 1953 but was ineligible in 1954 because of the 19-year- old rule. He was named to the all-conference, all-opponents, and all- northwestern first teams in 1953. Dwain was one of the 55 Rayders top scor- i ers and the team's best defensive player. He was also a good rebounder and an excellent presser. This was Dwain's third year with the varsity squad. , - JERRY SHUPERT C31 - Jerry is six-one and played forward. He was the Rayder's leading rebounder and a good defensive man. Jerry scored some important points when they were needed the most. Jerry came to the Red Ray ders from Indiana, making this year his first with the team. TOM LABLANCE 457 - from stands five-eight and N-J played regular guard. Tom was the team's leading passer and floor general. He was in the top four in team scoring for the second straight year. This year was Tom's second season as a regular and his third as a member of the varsity.
