There before us was a lovely doll house, and of all things, a fish pond! By the time most of us had lenjoyedl a dip ln it, it wasn't as lovely as we imagined. Miss Bush was kept busy with those of us who liked to hold the goldfish and see what made them work. FIRST GRADE--My, aren't we grown up now! Much to Miss Mapes' dis- tress, we were ever endlessly enjoying the idea of teasing the new kindergarten babies. SECOND GRADE--Miss Milner breathed a sigh of relief when we were finally on our way to the third grade. With erasers flying around the room and little g1rl's inked pigtails, it was no wonder. THIRD GRADE--Mrs. Dick was a very unfortunate teacher. We were just at that age of paper wads and sling shots. FOURTH GRADE--Miss Wiltse was a new teacher by the time we encoun- tered the fourth grade. With great importance, we would now help her wash the blackboards and straighten the room, for we were almost 9 years old! FIFTH GRADE--What an honor it was for Miss Little to take us on a tour of the high school building. And those Seniors! My, they were so old! Now we have A's and B's on our report cards instead of S's and U's. SIXTH GRADE--We're a year older this year, much to Miss Buettner's relief. We are behaving this year storing up energy for high school. SEVENTH GRADE--Hurrah! The big day is here! And so many new teach- ers! These classrooms are so very hard to keep straight, but worst of all, we have no recess now. EIGHTH GRADE--We are old timers at this now. There are so many new activities here. It's much more fun with no recesses, for we can talk between classes. NINTH GRADE--Well now we have to buckle down and try harder for bet- ter marks. You know, being a freshman is fun--except at initiation TENTH GRADE--Sophomores at last! Now 1t's our turn to initiate those pesky freshmen. Our teachers are really the best ever. ELEVENTH GRADE--Only one more year! And now we have our class rings. They are something to be very proud of. This year it was our turn to give the Seniors a J-Hop. We used an aquamarine scene for our motif. Next year we will be the oldest class in school! TWELFTH GRADE--Well, here we are, at the top of the ladder! We have our Senior pictures now and we feel very successful having completed our Senior Annual. Our trip was the main event scheduled for this last year in school. We enjoyed a lively boat trip to Niagara Falls and now we can close a final chapter in our lives in High School. Vet- erans of the 1908 varsity and reserve squads seemed to give promise of a successful season. This promise was fulfilled as the team won six games and tied one. Four team members were named on the All-Conference teams and one received honorable mention. The Rayders completed the seven game schedule with a total of 177 points to 37 for the opponents, and now have a five year record of thirty-two vic- tories, two ties, and no losses. A . -mlwfwf LE, B A S K E T B A L L The 1949-50 Rayders basketball team had a good sea- son, winning 9 .out of fourteen conference games and 2 non-conference games. They started the season by defeating Gaylord in a close game. They returned the favor however, by beating us by 3 points in an overtime on their floor. Pellston proved an easy prey, losing the first en- counter, and also losing the second game after giving the Rayders a tough first half. Harbor Springs was beaten easily in the first game on the Rayders' court, and lost out by 2 points on their very small floor. was the the but Boyne City, Gharlevoix's traditionally tough rival, downed in an overtime here, but turned the tables on Rayders at Boyne with a 59-bl trouncing. Mancelona, a hot and cold cellar team, was downed by Rayders after Mancey had lead for three quarters, coming to the Rayders larger floor, they were outplayed completely after a close first half. , Petoskey, our non-conference HBH rival, was beaten in their first game,'and also in the second encounter here. Grayling, a team possessing a tall forward line, started the Rayders on a three game losing streak down- ing them 38-29, but Charlevoix gained revenge with a win on our home floor. East Jordan, the conference champion, proved them- selves superior to the Rayders twice. The Rayders lose Bill Barber and Tom Hamlin, two good guards and both two year ren on the varsity.
