We were starting school for the first time. Miss Bush was our Kindere garden teacher, and taught us to draw and to sing. We, too, experienced the thrills of the fish pond, and doll house, as future Seniors are doing today. In the First Grade we buckled down to work. Miss Mapes introduced us to the mysteries of writing our own names, and reading. We worked even harder in the Second Grade, but Miss Milner 5 made it very pleasant for us. We had parties that year, for the first time. I The Third Grade was one of scrubbed tooth and nail with , I Mrs. Dick. She taught us our first arithmetic. Miss Eggert was our teacher in the Fourth Grade, and Max Smith taught us to play the saxette. We became professionals when we played for Mom and Pop at a band concert. y The Fifth Grade was quite a step forward as we were now I upstairs. We had two teachers that year, Miss Little and Mrs gggf Hawley. We presented two plays, and had several parties. ,1,g, ,:2f?gg? Miss Buettner was our teacher in the Sixth Grade. We spent all that year thinking about the next, when we would be in Jun- ior High. A The Seventh Grade!! We had reached Junior High, and had several teachers. We began to go to Pep Meetings and looked N forward to the games. I We spent most of the Eighth Grade looking forward to High S School. Vis1tor's Day was one of the outstanding highlights of that year. Now we're in our Freshman year! We had quite a time get- I ting our schedules straightened out, but we finally did. y f In our Sophomore year the class was enlarged by Helen Light I Don Mort, Imogene Stafford, Don Ecklund, Shirley Cunningham, and Ruth Hittenberger. We began to make plans for raising money for our Senior Trip. In our Junior year the purchase of class rings and the J-Hop were outstanding. Our play, Wwhen I Was Green,' was a X big success. I ' At last our Senior Year has arrived. We've spent most of our time in making money for our trip, a cruise on the Great Lakes. Our Play, nMistakes At The Blakes,n was very successful. I We had great pride in our football and basketball teams. For our class colors, we chose blue and silver. Our class flower is the white rose, and our motto is, nGuided over the crossroads we must now choose a highway.n I ff 'if I ' , V 'R -W ba a L -lffzn AW- ? lfA+ 4 1 -iv 4 4---','1i!!::L - f6, -- Xe- Jia' MOCK ELECTION Popular Girl Popular Boy cucbse Girl Cuteat Boy Prettiest Girl Handsomest Boy Versatile Girl Versatile Boy Bashful Girl Bashful Boy Class Flirt Sweetest Girl Best Dressed Girl Best Dressed Boy Sally King Warren Shadko Shirley Black Herb Boss Frances Potter Dick Jolliffe Shirley Cunningham Don Burke Imogene Stafford Don Mort Don Burke Sharon Butler Dorothy Tookalo Alvin Bennett -F xf ss- X N J Girl Dancer Hilda Douglas 4,f' Boy Dancer DOD Burke Q' 1 Girl Athlete Nancy Kipke X 4a Boy Athlete Pat Martin Class Wit Sue Webster 4 Optimist Jr. Potter X X7 Pessimist Arnie Loper Ladies Man Warren Shadko at Beau Catcher XIf'i Prettiest Hair Ciirll Frances Potter Prettlest Hair CBoyJ Dale Nos' Original Girl Beverly Looze , Uriginal Boy Nell Suomela It Class Angel Marcella Shaw XX Class Cut-up B.J. Por four years the Rayders have completed a football season undefealed, but this year East Jordan tied us in a cooreless game. This Charlevoix H1gh's athletic teams ain.ma1ntained top bil- ling throughout the north in the 'he-'ng campaign. For four years the Rayders have completed a football season undefeated, but this year East Jordan tied us in a scoreless game. This year seemed to be the Rayders 'bad-luck' year. Just about every game someone got hurt and could not play n the next game. Some were not able to play the rest of the'aeason. Three seniors, Pat lartin, Warren Shadko, and Ross Case were on the All-Conference tOl.me Completing a seven game schedule with 18 points scored ag- ainst them, the Rayders enlarged their string of victories to 26, and one tie over a period of four years. The seasons football scores were CHS 26 Mancelona 6 CHS cas 1 Grayling o CHS CHS Boyne City 6 cas CHS O East Jordan O 0 6 H'r Springs O Ll Pellston 0 32 Gaylord 6 With only four of last years veterans on the first team re- turning, the outlook for the year looked a little shady. But how wrong everyone proved to be. The Rayders lost only two games out of sixteen, the Conference, ference loss in of the season. but had to give their position, first place in X to Boyne City. The Rayders took their first Con- three years from East Jordan in the first game N Losing, 27-31. The other game they lost, was X X Q to the Boyne City Ramblers, 26-39. But the second time they pla- yed Boyne, the Rayders really gave them a licking, M6-25. In the Regional Tournament in Petoskey, the Rayders really proved they were the best team by beating Boyne again, Ml-32. Three of the starting five Rayders were on the All-Confer- ence team. Pat Martin, Ross Case, and Charles Fairbanks. And Warren Shadko, Don Hardy, and Bill Wallace were named on the se- cond team. These same six were named in the same manner on the first and second fll-Tournament teams. The season's basketball scores were: 27 31 CHS East Jordan CHS S East Jordan 26 CHS 3h Gaylord 22 CHS 3 Gaylord Ep CHS 39 Petoskey 36 CHS 3 Petoskey 3 CHS S Pellston 21 CHS 5 Pellston l CHS 8 H'r Springs 26 CHS 61 H'r Springs M2 cas 26 Boyne City 39 cas 6 Boyne City 2h CHS M6 Mancelona 21 CHS S Mancelona 30 CHS S7 Grayling 27 CHS Sl Grayling lh The season's basketball tournament scores: District at Charlevoix: Regional at Petoskey: cus 67 Kelkeeka 3k cas SL Mesick 33 cus 38 East Jordan 27 CHS Eg Leelenew 20 CHS CHS Boyne City 32 Quarterfinal at Petoskey: CHS 30 Negaunee 37 The track team also won high honors this year by taking first place in most of the meets.
