COCHRAN In this modern age, it becomes increasingly necessary for each indi- vidual child to be better trained, better educated than ever before. There is no longer any employment for the dropout. We must expand our educational program not only to take care of an ever-increasing number of pupils but also to offer a broader curriculum to meet the changing needs of our society. We strive to stretch every educational dollar to derive therefrom the maximum benefit. Our faculty is continually alert for new ideas with which to do a better job and to produce more highly qualified graduates. They are continuing their training to this end. We must and shall meet the challenge. A.- Ass -. i Alton W. Cochran, ' Superintendent School Administration Robert F. Myers, Principal; Harold E. Reis, Assistant Principal. Trust ' Your Boyfriend? While Mr. and Mrs. Meredith are out of town, their daughters, Kay and turbulent young Judy, are left in charge of Bessie, the Meredith housekeeper. Unexpectedly, Madeline Ross, a disturbingly attractive girl from a nearby city, arrives for a visit. Since Made- line's father is one of Mr. Meredithls best customers, Kay must make Madelinels visit a pleasant one. But both Kay and her chum, Lois Andrews, are uneasy as to how Madeline's charms will affect their boy friends, Steve and Tom. The high school band, of which Steve is leader and Tom a member, is to give a concert at a neighboring town the same night. Kay, determined that the boys shall not meet Madeline, refuses to attend the concert, as it would be necessary to take along her too-charming guest. Lois frames the excuse by telling Steve that Kay is to have a business interview with a certain Dudley Harvard Smithea name Lois picks from a book. Steve is openly suspicious. ln desperation Kay produces a perfectly strange man whom she introduces as Mr. Dudley Harvard Smith. When Miss Denny, the high school history teacher, learns that Mr. Dudley Harvard Smith is visiting Kay, she discloses the electrifying fact that he is a noted historian and that he has undoubtedly arrived to award Kay a prize for her essay on Americanism. In addition, Miss Denny announces that the band will cancel their concert and will instead give a party at the Meredith home in honor of Mr. Smith. From this point the play is a riot of fun and action. The band shows up to serenade Mr. Smith; Kay wildly attempts to keep Made- line out of sight; and events seem to prove that the strange man - who now refuses to leave the house-is an escaped patient from a hospital for the insane. Before matters are happily adjusted for everyone, the audience is treated to three acts of constant laughter and hilarious surprises. They were 3 TEAM! They won the Holiday Tourney by beating Clarksville 58-47 in the first game and Providence 61-47 in the championship game. They were also Mid-Southern Conference co-champs with an 8-1 conference record. Their only conference loss came at the hands of Scottsburg 77-71. The cross country team this year was made up completely of underclassmen. With the experience the boys obtained this year C.H.S. should look toward the next few years with optimism in this sport. Terry Dean established himself as one of the better distance runners in this area as a sophomore. Terry seemed to be at his best against good competition, as he finished fourth in the sectional, third in the conference, second in both the New Albany Invitational and the Seymour Invitational, and won the Clark County Meet. Terry was one of the brightest parts of the C.H.S. sports scene this year. Kneeling: J. Stocking, G. Graves, J. Dones, H. Thompson. Standing: R. Williams, E. Williams, R. Dean, L. The boys, even though being handicapped by not being able to practice on a track, turned in several noteworthy performances. Sophomore David Grace got fourth place in the low hurdles at the Mid Southern Conference Meet. In the Clark County Meet Lonnie Biggers got third in the 100 yard dash, Glenn Russel ran third in the 880 yard David Grace oes over a lo . g w run, and Terry Dean won the mule run. hurdle enroute to a fourth place conference finish. Coach Pack's baseball team proved to he a pleasant sur- prise this year. The team finished with a 4-5 record in the Mid Southern Conference. Bob Bowen proved to be one of the better pitchers in the conference. Bob pitched a no-hitter against Clarksville. Pepper Cooper was the team's leading hitter. Wayne Hubbard, Clark Combs, and John Stocking were the sen- ior members of the team. Last year was the first time C.H.S. competed with other schools in this sport. Due to this fact, most of the boys didn't have much experience in this sport. The team showed quite a bit of improvement this year. Gary Bledsoe, Eddie Bolly, Mike Brading, and Bob Littrell represented C.H.S. in the golf sectional at Bedford. The boys had fun. The home matches were played at the Jeffersonville Elks Club. Bob Littrell prepares to tee off on number 3 at the Jeff Elks.
