i Senior Class History In September 1956, one hundred and forty-three excited freshmen began their first year of high school. Having calmed down somewhat, we began thinking seriously about electing class a officers. Elected were: Frank Howard, President; Wayne Albright, Vice President; Judy Foster, ' Secretary; Jack Diamond, Treasurer; and Doug Herndon, Reporter. The most fortunate sponsors I selected were Miss Christina Eccles and Mr. Ray Henegar. We took our class trip to Clifty Falls State Park. As our sophomore year rolled around we discovered only 139 of our class had returned. Our officers for this year were: Frank Howard, President; Steve Crace, Vice President; Jerry Wood, Secretary; Stella Houchens. Treasurer; and Wayne Albright. Reporter. The sponsors chosen this I ! year were Mrs. Betty Evans and Mr. Harold Reis. An outstanding event of the year was the ' sponsoring of the First Annual Sadie Hawkins Dance which was quite a success. This year our class trip was to Spring Mill State Park. Now We are upperclassmen! However, only 125 returned to share this position. The officers chosen to lead us in this busy year were: Frank Howard, President; Benny Wentworth, Vice Pres- ident; Nancy Morgan, Secretary; and Jack Diamond, Treasurer. The sponsors drafted to guide us were Mrs. Mary Lou Myers and Mr. Harold Reis. We made history participating in the first TV class in the Charlestown Schools. The course was U. S. History and Mr. Harold Reis was our receiving teacher. A few of our money-making projects were concessions, Hi Fi Dance. Second Annual Sadie Hawkins Dance, and our class play, The Bus Stops Here, directed by Miss Norma Sue Engle. This money was used in giving the seniors a banquet and prom. The banquet had the theme Teahouse of the August Moon and the prom Moonlight Serenade. the largest senior class ever to attend Charlestown High. Officers chosen for our final are Jack Diamond, President; Steve Crase. Vice President; Barbara Lynn. Secretary; Sandie Couch, Treasurer; Phyllis Ramsey, Reporter. Chosen to be our sponsors this year were Mrs. Mary Lou Myers and Mr. Jack Risinger with Mr. Glenn Ross our faculty advisor. We had a variety of pro- ; jects to make money for our trip. Some of them were concessions, fruit cake and Christmas ? ; tree sales, sock hops, dances, paper drive, car wash, and our class play, A Feudin' Over Yonder. which was directed by Mr. Jack Risinger. In April forty-five members of our class and five sponsors went to Chicago, Illinois, for three days. On this trip we saw such sights as Museum of Natural History. Museum of Science and Industry. Lincoln Park Zoo, the Prudential Building, -, Northwestern University, and the Chicago Board of Trade. Everyone who went surely agrees that I we had a marvelous time. I i f At last we begin our final year in dear ole CHS. This year we have 95 members in our class, i I I These are just some of our many happy memories of CHS. We are deeply indebted to our teachers, sponsors, and the adminstration for making our high school career enjoyable as well as beneficial.
