1 , m mswmwM . ..;v,. '6' .y :. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY There were 143 Freshmen who attended Charlestown High School in 1955-1956. The class officers were Gene Westenskow, President; Jerry Beard, Vice President, and Nancy Carr, Secretary. Our class sponsors were Mr. Harold Reis and Mr. Ray Henegar. The class sponsored a skating party in the fall. For our class trip, we went to Clifty Falls State Park. for a day. We also began our great money making project--the paper drive. The years of 1956-1957 brought back 141 Sophomores. Class officers for this year were Jerry Beard, President; Bobby McDaniel, Vice President; Betty Crace, Secretary; Nancy Carr, Treasurer, and Lorna Parrot, Reporter. Our sponsors were Miss Marjorie Middleton and MI. Henry Gilbert. The sophomores sponsored the first dance of the year, the Harvest Hop. For our outing we went to Spring Mill State Park. The Sophomore year has gone by quite swiftly, and now there are 127 back for their Junior year. Our class officers were Jerry Beard, President; Larry Greathouse, Vice President; Virginia Houchens, Secretary; Nancy Carr, Treasurer, and Giles Kotcher, Reporter. The sponsors were Miss Marjorie Mid- dleton and Mr. Louis Kleopfer. This year was a very important year in our high school career. We elected our class flower, color, and motto. The ones chosen were flower - yellow rose; colors - yellow and grey; and motto - If we can't find a way, we'll make one. Our class play was a mystery-comedy titled Come Out of the Closet. It was directed by Mr. Raymond Conners. We entertained the Senior class at a Junior-Senlor Banquet. The theme of the ban- quet was GRADUATION. The decorations were in the colors of the Senior class. We also gave a Prom ., ' in honor of the Seniors. It took place in the new gymnasium. The theme of the prom was TWILIGHT i TIME. The music was played by Chet Cline and his Band from Louisville. We have the largest graduating class in Charlestown's history. Of our 88 members, the officers are A Jerry Beard, President; Larry Greathouse. Vice President; Margaret Roberts, Secretary; Bobby McDaniel, l 3 Treasurer; and Charlotte Doyle, Reporter. The sponsors were Miss Marjorie Middleton and Mr. Louis 1 :1 Kleopfer. Our class play was a romantic-cornedy, Father of the Bride, directed by Miss Betty Mur- ' phy. t...e .t, Half of our class along with four sponsors took a three day trip to Chicago, Illinois. While there we stayed at the LaSalle Hotel. We saw many wonderful sites. Such things as Midway Airport, Skid Row, Hull House, Chinatown. Lincoln Park Zoo, Museum of Natural History, Museum of Science and Industry, Bahaii Temple, Northwestern University, and many more that space prohibits us to name. Now it is graduation time and we all regret to leave dear CH8, but the time has come and we must go. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the teachers, sponsors, and fellow stu- dents for all of the good times they have shown us along with the had. We appreciate all that any of you have ever done for us, and we will never forget any of them. We sincerely hope that you will re- member the class of '59 forever.

Robert McDaniel, will my ability to win the driving Road-E-O to anyone who fears his fellow student drivers. Alice Miller, will my ability to graduate to anyone who thinks they can do a better job. Barbara Mudd, will my position as Gym Assistant to Margaret Garriot. Ronnie Newlin, will all my comic books to Miss Ross, to put in the Library. Robert Nickell, being of sound mind and great ability will my rusty Government book to Bill Vettcl'. Joyce Oglesby, leave to any unwilling Junior my ability to get ten hours of sleep each night and sleep in the next dark class. Larry Pacey, will my art ability iwhich my btother willed me last yeao to my sister Brenda. Margaret Panther Brown, will my ability to go with the same boy for three years to my sister, Pat. David Payne, being of sound body and absent mind, do will and bequeath my flat feet to anyone who is planning on becoming a cop. Delores Payne, will my great singing voice to Ethelene Shepard. Jerry Pearson, will my reserved spot in Auto Shop to any dissatisfied Ford owner. Margaret Roberts, do not will or bequeath nothing to nobody since my first will was censored. Judith Schafer, will my ability to study to Shirley S. Rosemary Scholl, will my parking space here at school in front of the fire hydrant, to Judy Hobson in case her car or bicycle catches fire.
