In the early autumn of 1949 eighty-two timid freshmen enrolled in Arsenal High; soon they had exhausted the patience of all teachers concerned. The seniors, being on the warpath, greeted us with warpaint and were we a mess! After the warpaint wore off, we settled down to the regular activities of school. In the middle of the semester, we enjoyed a skating party with all its knocks and bangs. With our sponsors, Mrs. Boyd and Mr. Bonsett we con- tributed to our freshman year by having two outings, one to Clifty Falls and the other to Henryville. Seventy-three came back to the Arsenal to begin our second year in high school. This was just another school year to us. We were sponsored by Mr. Myers and Mr. Reis. Our first semester outing was at Henryville; the second, to Spring Mill. We ordered our class rings, which were to be delivered in the fall of 1951. Our junior year was one to which we had all looked forward. We were going to sponsor a prom, we would get our class rings, and we were much, much closer to being seniors. There were only fifty-eight of us to carry on the duties of this year. First of all, we elected our sponsor and class officers. We chose Mrs. Fore as our sponsor. Later in the year she re- signed and Mr. Abel took over the painful job. We elected as class officers: President, Nancy Meisner; Vice-President, Charles Willey; and Secretarye Treasurer; Lester Webb. The first semester we had an outing at City .Park. The high spots of the second semester were the production of the play, Seventeenth Summer, and the giving of a very enjoyable prom. Our final year at school and are we proud! Yet, in a way, it isn't all we planned, for leaving school is not as happy an occasion as we thought. This year we had only forty-six enroll. It isn't a very large class, but it is the largest class to graduate from Charlestown High School. We got off to a busy start and elected class officers and a class sponsor. We wisely chose Mrs. Sonner as our sponsor. As class officers we chose: President, Bob Coble; Vice-President, Jean Grace; and Secretary-Treasurer, Mack Cladding. We started the year by having an outing at City Park. The second semester we discussed our trip, where we would like to go, where we could go, and how far our finances would take us. After much discussion we decided to go to Cincinnati. Our Senior play, Hillbilly Weddin, was a brilliant offering to Thespis. In closing we would like to thank the teachers who helped us by slowly pushing us through the doors of high school. $hior Cfadd ABNEY, FREDIA F.H.A.
