l l -..A., . sq... CLASS HISTORY As we turn back through the pages of time, it seems only yesterday that we were freshmen. As September 1947 gegan, ninety-five of us trudged to Arsenal High School to enroll. The p rincipa 1 , Mr. James E. Taflinger, awaited us at the door with a broad smile on his face. Lurking in the shadows were things called-SENIORS, with lipstick and green paint held in readiness. Finally, developing organized resistance, we elected Don Orman as general, Eugene Howard as major, and Gayla Sheets as clerk in charge of casualties. After a week or two of battle, two brave teachers, Mrs. Swain and Mr. Maddox, consented to be our sponsors and to protect us from the SENIORS. Soon with all of the excitement over, we settled down to school work and to the plann- ing of the two outings which we had later that year. The next year only seventy-eight of us returned to be sophomores underthe lead- ership of our officers, George Mann, Rex Jean, and Norma Sue Emerson. We under- took two outings . The first was to Clifty Falls State Park, where, away from the watchful eyes of our sponsors. Mr. Reiss and Mr. Myers, a number of boys proceeded to become bald with the aid of a pair of old scissors. The second trip to Spring Mill State Park was of a calmer sort. And then before we knew it, the year had sneaked by and we were JUNIORS. This was a year when our officers, Rosalie Groskurd, Carl Grace, and Steve Hamilton had big plans about having the be st Junior-Senior prom ever. Our play, The Green Light , which was directed by Mr. Agne, was a huge success. Our next big event was an Amature Show produced by Jim Howard. Then, with the aid of our sponsors, Mr. Francke and Mr. Bonsett we started planning for our prom. Everyone agreed that it was the best held for sometime. Now we are Seniors. There were only forty-three of us when we came back to the Jonathan Jennings High School. A lot of faces as well as the building were differ- ent; we had a new principal, Mack Bennett, and nine new teachers. New eiubs were started, with many of the offices held by Seniors, the Student Council was begun under the sponsorship of Mr. Bennett. The membership consisted of the officers of each class, our representatives being Steve Hamilton, Carl Grace, and Gayla Sheets. Two Seniors, Steve Hamilton and Gayla Sheets, were elected as president and secretary- treasurer. Our successful play, Meet Me in St. Louis was directed by our sponsor, Miss Burke. As we leave C.H.S. we are leaving a lot behind, but we are taking memories of happy times and friends. So long and good luck to those who follow after us.
