This is true prob- ably because they deal most directly with the problems of today's society. Each is taught on a semester basis. But the old standbys are always there. First, there is world history. The knowledge obtained about the background of the major civilizations leads into the course on American history. Our history could not be appreciated without understanding the func- tion of government. The goal to which we aspire can be an individual choice, enhanced by preparation and reinforced with dedication. Regardless of our self-determined direction, education is a most important factor. It is imperative that each one of us continually take full advantage of the educational opportunities afforded. As holds true with any of our endeavors, the degree of satisfaction and achievement gained from school is in a direct propor- tion to the amount of work and effort put forth. Newton player No. 52: Thanks, I needed that! Despite their losing record, the Charleston Trojans had an exciting season with several over and double-overtime games. The action on the court was always fast-paced and physical. Individuals stood out this year for various reasons. Mike Pence led the team in scoring and made the Apollo All-Conference team. Dennis Conely, who dazzled the fans with his daring dribbling and passing, was named the outstanding sophomore player in the Apollo Conference and received honorable mention to the All-Conference team. Kevin Hussey, the lone senior on the team, was second in scoring, and he also made the All-Conference team. With the exception of Kevin Hussey, all of the players should be back next season. With one more year of experience behind them, the basketball Trojans should have a better season next year. Front Row: Dennis Conely, Mark Wilson, Jeff Gossett, Mark Jobe, Steve Curtis.
