Our team captured the district for the second straight year, no easy task, before losing to Decatur 4-I in the Springfield Sectional. We also won the El conference race with a 4-l record. This was the first year for an El League in baseball which included Westfield, Paris, Kansas, Cumberland, and CHS. Shortstop Rex Cooley was the leading hitter with 23 hits in 66 times at bat for a .348 bat- ting average. Thirdsacker Richie Gordon and catcher Bob Wright were the only other .300 hitters with .314 and .303 averages. Don Moses was the leading pitcher, ending also did some nice hurling and should be rough Secondsacker Jim Kimball and Moses were bers of the starting team include first baseman fielder Dave York up with an 8-2 record.
