SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In l947 we entered C H S as unsophisticated freshmen Wearing the green ofthe freshy weattended our first social event ge acquaintedn party We also won recognition with our freshman relay, winning in the E. I League meet Our Sophomore year was more or less routine Our only lnteresting event was a skating party Then came our Junior year We demand recognition for Out of This World our first class play During this year Joan Chism won for our class the honor of presiding over the Christmas dance as Miss Recorder of 1950 The next highlight was the Junior Carnival The many events of the evening included penny pitching fortune telling etc At this time Norma MCGUIHD and Jack Gwin presided as king and queen At all football and basketball games the Juniors could be seen hurrying about selling refreshments All the funds raised made it possible to produce the great event of the year the Junior Senior Prom The theme of the prom was Southern Hospitality I During our Senior year Norma McGu1nn again won honors as HHomecom1ng Queen of 1950' Barbara Hutson also won honors for usas she became the D A R award winner ofthe year Then came the Senior class presentation 'Spring Fever Time has passed quickly and soon we will leave the h lls of C H S to take our place among the graduates of the past D A R AWARD WINNER Barbara Jean Hutson was selected by the senior class nd faculty of Charles ton High School the 1951 D A R award winner representative from this school The Daughters of the American Revolu on h nor e girl fr m each of t forty eight states selected from the senior classes of the Senior High Schools as excelling in the following qualities which make for good c1t1zensh1p depend ability service, leadership andpatriot 1sm The winning girl from each state receives from the Nation l Society of the D P R government bond of one hundred dollar maturity value Lnder dependability are truthfulness, honesty and punctuality In connection with service are co operation helpful ness and responsibility Personality self control and initiative are listed un er leadership and patriotism means unselfish loyalty to American ideals e a1m of a ar is o build youthful character and to call attention to those qU811t18S which are desirable in good citizens The contest is not n essay writing or popularl contest 17 . . . a N .t I . y , . .
