ENGLISH They say I will be killed on the Ides of March, shouts john Frank with glee, as he portrays Caesar. Important to the development of each student is a sound knowledge of the English language. The Charleston High School English Department provides instruction not only in grammar, but also in appreciation of fine literature, and in writing techniques. The main objective of this department, says Mrs. Arline Smith, head of English studies, is to develop as far as possible the communication skills of every student. As a result of efforts to increase the scope of the department, two new classes have been organized. The first of these, creative writing, taught by Miss Whitteker, is an experimental class designed to train those interested in literary arts. A special reading class, taught by Miss Facinoli, is planned to further the read- ing ability of those enrolled. As a good background of English and proper language usage is vital in every facet of life, the students are fortunate in studying under the competent and pleasant Charleston High School English staff.
