During this year, our first in the new high school, things have been done on a larger and a more original scale than ever before, and this annual, which the staff presents for your approval, comes nearer in our estimation to being a school annual than ever before. ' This is the first time in the history of Charleston High School that a year book has been printed within the school. This year there has been more student work in the production than ever before, and for these reasons we iirmly believe that this book truly represents our school. As you turn over these pages, you will no doubt see where many mistakes have been made, but remember that the best efforts of the staff were expended in the preparation of this publi- cation, and as long as these efforts were given in the service of our school, we are content. ---THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Qgan new l927 awp ,, Pug Fglt N' avr Fl I x 5 w -X' f 1 ' 5 . gg f :Z 4 :Q gfaunk 69112 'I if E2 J gg :Z A 1 nf :7 f-3 :Q ' x l J , A N gg C612 LY . .4 QQ , ' Snhunl X A A' 3110 My 'f Y M' 5-Ski ,Aff I vw iam if sl, ' ,Y 4 - . f -' V' 7-. Not only was he a consistent ground gainer but he was a bear on the defense. Pat will be back next year and a whole lot is expected' of him. Q GURMER 'iWAMOCK, Quarter , Although Gurmer-did not carry the ball as much as the others, he was with the exception of Plaster, the best defensive player Charleston had. He also ran interference, and it was often his skillful blocking that cleared the way for many long runs. MARK GILLISPIE, Tackle , Mark lived up to expectations and blossomed into a real star. His playing in the Huntington and Greenbrier games was especi-ally noteworthy. Due to his age he will not be able to play next year. Stansbury honored him with a position on the second All-State Team. - WILLIAM LIVELY, Halfback Bill was the most consistent ground gainer on the team, but he was on the sick list most of the season and so did not shine as he should have. In the Huntington and Greenbrier games Bill played a brand of ball that may have been equaled but very seldom surpassed on a high school gridiron. Bill graduates this year. Q? Although light, Michie played a great game. Michie's passes to Goff twice saved us from white-washings. Michie has another year and if he puts on some weight should make a bang-up quarter. FRANK PILE, ' Guard Frank came to us from Greenbrier Military Academy year before last. His steady play at the guard position was one of the features of the team's playing this year. ANDY BRAWLEY, Halfback Andy played a good consistent game the whole year and held down the punting job very well. For the first time in six years the Big Train triumphed over the Pony Express . It would be hard to pick the star or stars of this memorable game, but most of the sport writers agreed that Captain Plaster of Charleston was the out- standing star of the game. Bill Lively and Andy Brawley also played wonder- ful games of ball for Charleston, Brawley making the touchdown that won the game. CHARLESTON HIGH DOWNS GREENBRIER Not satisfied with humiliating the proud Huntington team, Charleston came back the next week and trounced their old rival, Greenbrier Military School, 19-0. This victory amply repaid us for the stinging defeat handed Charleston last year by Greenbrier. MORGANTOWN DEF EATS CHARLESTON Morgantown, with one of the strongest teams they ever had, journeyed to Charleston and won a hard fought game 21- 7. Charleston, minus several of her regulars, among them Bill Lively, was unable to stop the Morgantown backs. PARKERSBURG WRECKS BIG TRI- IN The Parkersburg Big Reds with hundreds of cheering supporters ran wild and handed Charleston their second defeat of the season 20-6. 'Parkers- burg brought her own band down, and the game was one of the most color- ful of the season. ml fy' 1927 N9 ' ii ro Page One Hundred S .sly-lu Tb: CHARLESTONIAN ' 'N . -. . -.-.1--. -: f X ...
