ELKHERD HANDS IRISH 26-7 BEATING A powerful Elkview team .outscored the Irishmen, 26-7. The lone Catholic touchdown was scored on a 6-yard run by fullback Greg Barlow. CATHOLIC BATTLES DUPONT TO 19-19 TIE The Dupont Panthers held Charleston Catholic to a 19-19 deadlock as the Irish still were unable to break the Dupont jinx. In the opening quarter, the greenclad Irishmen drove to the Dupont 2-yard line, only to fumble the ball to a Panther who sped 98 yards, untouched, for the score. Baldy's excellent passing and Barna's catching, added to the strong Catholic line, pounded at the Dupont squad, but they had to settle with a tie as the Irish led in first downs, 19-9, and yardage, 390-230. MONTGOMERY EDGES CATHOLIC 76-20 The Fighting Irish suffered their first loss to the Montgomery Greyhounds. The sensa- tional Irish aerial circus sputtered out in the final minutes of the game as the Greyhounds scored two quick touchdowns in the last quarter. The final score was Montgomery 26 - Catholic 20. CATHOLIC SUFFERS 40-0 LOSS TO YELLOW JACKETS It was a bad day for the Green and White. The Irishmen couldn't seem to get started on the right foot. Everybody had a chance to get into the act as the benches were cleared in an attempt to find a working combination, but to no avail, as the Yellowjackets pounded the Irish 40-O. 42

xx v 4 .4 4 14 I MCDADE MEN BOW TO COLUMBUS After traveling to Columbus, Ohio, the Irish could not summon enough go in the fourth quarter to stave off the Rosary High School eleven. However, the 20-7 score was fat fr m being in- dicative of the fine brand, otyball playing whichthe Green and White men demon- strated. The score was knotted at half- time 7-7, but the two platoon system of Columbus finally succeeded in wearing down the el ev en iron men of Mickey McDade. Twomore Rosary touchdowns were tallied in the last quarter. BLACK EAGLES DEFEAT CATHOLIC After ahard fought contest, the Irish lost by a score of Z6-13. Paul Barna accounted for all 13 points. Paul ran backa blocked Black Eagle punt for the first touchdown and caught a pass from Doug Baldy for the second. The extra point was al so scored on a pass play. The McDade eleven played good foot- ball, but the breaks weren't theirs that afternoon. GAULEY BRIDGE DOWNS CATHOLIC 't wa s a muddy day for the Green and White homecoming. The Travelers trounced the Irish 51-6. The only Catholic touchdown came on a long pa s s from Doug Baldy to Paul Barna. This play covered 60 yards for the score.
