Dave Bartemes scored the first Irish touchdown and Paul Barna added the second tally on a pass from Doug Baldy as the Green and White took a commanding 14-0 lead before the end of the first quarter. Ken Williams inter- cepted another pass, and ran 75 yards for the second score. Co-Captain Luddy Kogoy recovered a Clendenin fumble on their 35 yard line, and set up an Irish score in four quick plays. Baldy's accurate passing assured the victory. CATHOLIC BATTLES DUPONT TO 19-19 TIE The Dupont Panthers held Charleston Catholic to a 19-19 deadlock as the Irish still were unable to break the Dupont jinx. In the opening quarter, the greenclad Irishmen drove to the Dupont 2-yard line, only to fumble the ball to a Panther who sped 98 yards, untouched, for the score. Baldy's excellent passing and Barna's catching, added to the strong Catholic line, pounded at the Dupont squad, but they had to settle with a tie as the Irish led in first downs, 19-9, and yardage, 390-230. MONTGOMERY EDGES CATHOLIC 76-20 The Fighting Irish suffered their first loss to the Montgomery Greyhounds. The sensa- tional Irish aerial circus sputtered out in the final minutes of the game as the Greyhounds scored two quick touchdowns in the last quarter. The final score was Montgomery 26 - Catholic 20. CATHOLIC SUFFERS 40-0 LOSS TO YELLOW JACKETS It was a bad day for the Green and White. The Irishmen couldn't seem to get started on the right foot. Everybody had a chance to get into the act as the benches were cleared in an attempt to find a working combination, but to no avail, as the Yellowjackets pounded the Irish 40-O. 42
