TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD 3 ADMINISTRATION 4 SENIORS 17 OUTSTANDING SENIORS 50 SENIOR WILL 52 SENIOR PROFILE 54 UNDERCLASSMEN 59 ACTIVITIES 71 SPORTS 87 ADVER TISEMENTS 107 1 Dear Readers: It is the hope of the Lyre Staff of 1963, that in an original manner, we have captured the real spirit of our years at Baker High School. We have attempted to preserve some of the scholastic and athletic activities of our senior year. Many long hours have been spent in putting our Lyre together, and most of them have been enjoyable ones. It is my wish that this book will not only bring you pleasure now, but in future years it will bring you many happy memories of “the good old days” at Baker High. To keep in step with the era of the New Frontier where youthfulness and physical fitness are important qualifications of leadership, we have chosen a baby for the theme of our book. This junior citizen, the symbol of the tomorrows which lie ahead of us, will introduce you to the various sections of the Lyre. As editor, I would like to express my thanks to each member of the Lyre staff, and to all others who helped make this year book possible. Our sincere appreciation goes to our advisor, Miss Winchell, who has given much time and thought as she helped us prepare this yearbook. Sincerely, Marty Smith Editor iSpli ' {:'M BOARD OF EDUCA TION Clifford CrS r' R°, er' Bi‘2’ ,,rCS'; RuSSdl Dr. Sanford Dean; Donald Rav Sulri , H ■ Wi,liam Crcgo; Emerson Topper, clerk (absent) 1 hC°d°re DurSee Assistant Superintendent; Cecil Reeves 6 ziiiktr! esam To the class of 1963, congratulations! A thought for today, tomorrow, and forever. ’‘Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and arc all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.” — Spurgeon DONALD W. COATES, PRINCIPAL j ! MERRILL H. BOGARDUS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Best Wishes to the Class of 1963: No graduating class has had more op- portunities and challenges before it than the Class of ’63. If it has no meaning, and makes you frown, hang your head and color it brown. If our will is dull it makes you snooze, grab your sleeping pills and color it char- treuse. If our many thoughts leave you goopy and icky, dip your brush in the blue and color it sticky. But if these pages leave you calm and serene, be nonchalant and color them green.
