It must be a tribute to our school and a reminder of our senior year in particular. With this in mind, we chose as our theme Scenes Around School. Scenes around school can be any number of things: the mad rush be- tween classes, the underclassmen sitting in the lower halls during lunch, or the sports event we barely won. Some of these things our artists and editors have tried to capture for us to look back on in the years to come. We of the Lyre Staff are proud of this book, for it is a memory in itself. We wish to thank the faculty, the administration, and our parents, for helping us to accomplish what we like to consider the first adult job of the class, 1961. To these people and to all our readers, we proudly present our yearbook, the Lyre of 1961. Sincerely, Lawrence E. Graff Editor Lyre Staff —— First Row: Mike More, Jack Wells, Phil Sloat, Martha Adsit, Feature Editors; Larry Graff, Editor; Kathy Fitzpatrick, Sue Brown, Art Editors; Carol Reed, Girls' Sports Editor; Wally Robinson, Boys' Sports Editor. Benefits we have received have consisted, not only of a good education, but of many social activ- ities, the sports program, the music program and a wide variety of other activities, all of which are offered to the students at Baldwinsville Central High School. Mr. Conant said that we are American and free, to attend an American school, free to choose any subjects desired, and free to take advantage of or to ignore all that is offered us. We hope that all of the members of our class have taken advantage of the oportunities which have been given freely to us, and that in some way our example will help future classes to take advantage of all that is offered to them at Baldwinsville Central High School. Loaded with juniors and sophomores, the team could not muster an extended attack. Although young and inexperienced in varsity play, the team showed the spirit and desire of champions. In every contest but one, the team came back and scored after giving up a touchdown. Although the team finished last, it had its standouts. All County honors again went to three-year man, senior Jack Baker. Four players were on honorable mention. They were seniors John Durgee, Ron Bush, Lee Giddings, and junior Al Starling. Considering 1960 as a building year for the team and then with one year of varsity play under their belts, according to Coach Reidel, 1961 looms brighter. Other seniors on the squad were the following: Bill Brotherton, Louie Clark, Ron Colon, Chuck Pickard, Ed Fowler, Bryce Gutske, Ernie Hamm, Dave Shaban, and Bill Currier. Co-champions of the AB county league, the team packs more spirit, hustle, and all-around fight into a game than any basket- ball team seen in B'ville in many years. Team balance has been the team's strength as 7 out of the 8 players have scored at least 100 points. Seven of the 8 members are seniors. The upperclassmen are Chuck Foster, Fred Gaudern, Wally Robinson, Jack Baker, Bill Coleman, and Dave Lynch. As the 61 LYRE goes to press, the team is entered in the County League Playoffs, where avengence of the team's only loss by 1 point to Marcellus is possible, and the Class AA Section III Tournament.
