I It it with deep personal feeling that I extend to each of you, on behalf ef the? entire faculty, my sincere congratulations on the successful completion of your high! school careers. The architect creates his designs and draws the plans which the engineer wil use to build a structure. The groundwork of your educational structure has been designed and planned for you almost entirely by adults. Now you must plan for yourself. How well we have done with that groundwork will be determined by the nature of structure which you will be called upon to complete. If you have mastered the fundamentals necessary for a livelihood and acquired the technique of meeting your fa!low-associates on the same level; if you have learned to give a day's work for a day's pay and to spend your leisure time wisely; if you have learned to look through rose-colored glasses more often than through cloudy lenses, and that happiness means more than financial security; if you have the fortitude to meet the challenge of dictatorial forces by using the precipts of the Master Teacher, the structure which you will complete will be sound. May the Great Architect of the Universe be with you and guide you as you dream of your great tomorrows. THEODORE R. In October, the class sold Christmas cards. Our class had the privilege of holding the first dance in the new gym— 'Winter Fantasy,” the annual Christmas Ball. In March, the play, Girl Shy,” was dramatized by the members of the class. The Juniors wish to extend many thanks to their advisor, Miss Linsky, for her kindness and help throughout the year. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS EDWARD YOUNG President JAMES GRAHAM Vice President ROBERT RIDALL Secretary t KATHERINE REEDER T reasurer SOPHOMORE CLASS In the fall of 1953 we met and elected our class officers for the follow- ing year. Because of our size, we now haye a committee, headed by our class treasurer, in charge of collecting dues from our five homerooms. We have discovered that we have several outstanding athletes in our class, among them, Billy Guerrera, who played varsity basketball, with Dick Ochampaugh, Dick Peck, Marty Lower, Leonard Houck, David Doughty, and Chuck Millers on the junior varsity squad. Cheering the boys on, were several cheerleaders from our class, Bertha Uhl, Sally Hamm, and Sally Pacelli. NAOMI LOBDELL Secretary SUSAN HALL Treasurer SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS EARL HOWARD President RICHARD OCHAMPAUGH Vice President FRESHMAN CLASS Because of our extremely large size, our class has been hard to organize and as yet, we have not elected our permanent class officers. However, we have homeroom officers, who have ably managed the affairs of our five homerooms. Outstanding athletes from our class are Guv Perdiue and Warren Weller, while Linda Crook, Marianne Walters, and Jane Randall helped to support the team as part of the cheerleading squad. Many of our members are actively engaged in the various activities at school and we are all looking forward with anticipation to the many exciting events of the next three years. Here was a team that undertook to duplicate the efforts of last year’s championship squad. The team was greatly handicapped by injuries to key players, even before the opening game. This made it difficult to attain the coordination needed to meet rugged competition. Nevertheless, this team was packed with plenty of football spirit and gave a good account of itself in each game. Although the team realized that it had not attained the ultimate goal it had set out to achieve, it did take pride in the fact that the following members received county recognition: Don Payne and Murrell Gillan notched berths on the All County First Team; Gary Steele and Louie Schug were granted second team nominations; Paul Webb, Bob Peck, and Nelson Rice received honorable mention. The bright spot of the season is the fact that many fine football prospects have been discovered for next year's eleven. It was apparent that with so much green material, that it would be a tremendous task to come even close to duplicating the championship team of last year. However, the boys gave it the old school never-say-die” spirit, and the results were most gratifying. They not only won two games, but in several, the score was very close. The big thing to remember about this year's team, is the fact that it had to go through a year of hard knocks, to gain the necessary poise and experience. This year’s team was a real credit to the school and student body. Burton, VanDer- veer, Coleman, Schneider, Well and Brand will graduate. Weller, Rice, Little, Mills, Ridall, Guerrea and Summerville will be the holdovers. These boys exemplified true sportsmanship in every game and the entire season could, perhaps, be better explained by: For when the one Great Scorer comes To check against your name He cares not, that you won or lost, but only HOW YOU PLAYED THE GAME. Setting records, both school and county, has been the fortune of the Crimson Track teams for the past two or three seasons. The ’52 Track Team, which numbered twenty-three, were champions in the county and put their two bits in elsewhere in New' York State. For example, the State Meet at West Point found Don Payne fifth in the discus throw, while in the section 111 meet, Don and Bob Payne cleaned up’ in the discus by placing second and third respectively. Also, Dick Doback received first in the gruel- ling 880. New' school track records, w'hich will remain in the archives for a period of time, are Don’s colossal heave of 45’ 71 j”, in the shot put and Dick Doback’s fantastic 2:08 in the 880 yard dash. The medicine men” of Onondaga County had augured an optimistic year, and the team lived up to its expectations. Our baseball team this past year will go down in the history of our school as one of its very best. This team clearly demonstrated in its every game that it was one that couldn't be beaten and wouldn’t be beaten.” This was a team that had poise, pitching, and batting strength coupled with alert- ness, daring, base running, and baseball savvy” or know how. It was a team that had real spirit with a balance of power that carried it to the top of the league and the championship.
