As it rolled to its final resting place, juniors and sophomores found themselves winded, but ready for the next go-round, while seniors were slightly out of focus, but aware that re- hearsals for living were almost over. The traditional joy that accompanies the end of a school year was present, but tinged with darkness, as many realized that such days were almost over, to be re- signed as memories. These memories - indelibley imprint- ed upon our minds - are not of the for- mal, but rather of the informal education we received. And finally, what if we had been deprived of the small things that provided spice, like forgotten locker combinations, lost books, overdue books, and slips of multi- colored paper ad infiniturn. All these things must have affected us . . . they must have. ifw' 'W-wiv H -,4 my But eventually it has to end. After a person mounts a platform and receives that small piece of paper, he marches away from more than a ceremonyg he leaves behind a way of life, a distinct era x X . pr' 7 .5 E 31 if E if . 1 15 In K 31:2-of ,sl f' M' X in his life. He goes out to see and be seen, to hear and be heard, to live and be tested. He will change. His world will change. But no matter how many changes will comeg no matter the joys, the loves, the pain, and even the happi- ness that will come, and go, and be for- gotten, these years of togetherness, of warm security, of incalcuable experience will not be forgotten. They are, most cer- tainly, the Golden Era of our lives. I vii M wir, I Superintendent Boyd addresses seniors The Class of 1970 is the first class to graduate after the moon landing. This class will be chal- lenged to meet these changing conditions in a realistic approach. Your continuing education will determine your niche in this technological age. You must be willing to change on short notice and there- fore, you learn to enjoy and anticipate change instead of fearing it. When we say we must educate for change, this is not an idle nor arbitrary phrase. We have no choice. The world in which you will raise your families, build your homes and earn your living will be as different from today as the world of your childhood differs from today. Regarding success, William Ward said, KU Success is one who decided to succeed and worked. Q2D A failure is one who decided to suc- ceed and wished. Q31 A decided failure is one who failed to decide - and waited. What is your answer? The Charles Page High School 1970 Graduat- ing Class will be challenged to meet these changing conditions. Today,s world needs young leaders of your aptitude and desire who realize the importance of dedication and learning. You have been a pleasure to all who have worked with you. It is only through the intelligent application of increased knowledge - scientific, social, and cultural - that the troubles faced by all peoples will eventually be solved. We at CPHS trust that you, through academic attainment and by having been a part of proper social atmosphere, have acquired some of the skills that may con- tribute to the solution of these problems. The Senior Class of 1970 ends its public education with a rich treasury of memories and accomplishments, and looks forward to many future accomplishments. Regardless of future plans, the senior year is a period of transition. The transitions from ado- lescence into adulthood, from high school to college or career, from dependency to inde- pendence all are experienced during the senior year. When the senior year is over, the transitions are complete. Building class floats, attending banquets, proms, and high school sports activi- ties, tournaments and classes become memo- ries. The defeats are remembered only to en- courage us to have more victories in the future. gk f , 1 I'- In 1969, the senior class elected Rick Boyd vice president, Steve Horn president, and Marchia Manes secretary. 38 2,5 A A N A i in 21 '- l A1 1 'AX QF Ml ff 1 Janice Adams Brian Armstrong Bosettia Armstrong Patty Amett Rick Amey David Asher Ronnie Ashton Carolyn Avey Charlotte Baker Pam Baker Robert Baker john Barker Susan Beaubien Cindy Beck jim Beck Larry Beck Cliff Bell David Belt Sharolyn Berger Gary Bliss Vickie Bohannon Becky Bolden Bill Bounds Karen Bowden SENIOR CLASS Debbie Bower Mike Bowes Joyce Boyd Rick Boyd Ronnie Boyd Byron Bradley Morris Brandt Glenda Brashear Janet Brashear Jimmie Brashear Bonnie Braswell Janice Breisch Final year highlighted by activities Ronnie Broomhall Becky Brown Mike Brown Sandra Brownell Butch Bulmer Glenn Buntin Marlene Burk Richard Bums L A E I 1 if 4 . . ska affix , ' Mike Brown takes great pains making accurate measurements so that his experiment in physics will come out just right. The class elections determined the leaders of the 1970 junior class. These leaders had the responsibility of directing the juniors, actions into succeeding efforts on class projects. In the powder-puff football game, the junior girls played their hardest, but in vain as they fell victim of the sophomores. The float compe- tition proved to be much the same story. Sophomores burst on to the scene aston- ishing both juniors and seniors with tons of en- ergy and spirit. Winning the spirit stick in pep assemblies wasn't unusual for the sophomores to do. If they did lose they made sure that the competition was stiff. Sophomores surprised everyone when they won first place in the float contest. They built a model of the planet earth, and in making it spin, set a new goal for the classes of next year. Sophomore class officers Tommy Hudspeth. Debbie Browers, and Ly na Evans worked hard in leading their classes. MQW' I ,411 66 l X . 1. ...J ' Q 'far 'V' , , 3 'ig 1' A X fa at A -ii A . But despite all of the work, most sophomores find that the atmosphere is different from any other school they have attended. High school is a new experience for sopho- mores everywhere. With shooting, rebounding, a good defensive effort, and plenty of team spirit, the Sandites showed that they were quite ca- pable of defeating almost any foe that they might come up against. As well as an outstanding team record, the Sandites had two of the most widely acclaimed players in the state. Glenn Buntin and Ed Car- rett spearheaded the Sandite attack all year. HS strives for improved scholarship ' ,ato-.ff-W ua ' -v., --...gs 125 To be elected a member of the National Honor Society is an accomplishment that every member should be proud of because membership sets the student apart from the average high school student. The association of scholars initiates nearly a hundred students every year. This large number is a witness to a scholastic record of which students of Page and members of NHS should be proud. Page,s 1969-1970 foreign exchange student was Sholeh Dabiri, who came to the United States from Iran. Her American parents were Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Lynch. Kay Lynch was her American sister. Sholeh,s home town is Isfahan. This town is very famous and is known as 6'The Museum of the East . When asked why she came to the United States with the AFS, Sholeh said, My purpose for coming to the United States under the AFS program is to see America and its improve- ments, to meet its people, and to learn about their culture and customs. He carried a full schedule consisting of Math IV, English, phys- ics, government, public speaking, and typing, and somehow managed to find time for sports. Even though his course of studies was fewer than that in Argentina, the one here was more difficult since he had to use English. Consider- ing these factors, Billis ability to maintain his high scholastic average was amazing. His only difficulty came from trying to understand our customs and the slang terms we used. Seniors honored for outstanding Work Throughout the school year, each month two senior students were chosen to be senior citi- zens. The couples were chosen in the basis of their personal achievements and contributions to the school, school spirit, and the organiza- tions to which they belonged. Although many contributions were made throughout the year by many seniors, the Hit achievements of these eighteen stood out above the others. Each of these students should be proud of having attained the honor of senior cit- izen. But even more important than the honor itself is the encouragement that is provided to other students to meet the standards set by these eighteen seniors. If future students set examples like these, Page will remain on top. Y . r 'Y i ski' 1 r' 3 hir. lg. sill' f 'Q fig. y . 1. W wg ,gem tif-. sfx sq ,Q vw Q 'rv -1 ik Q.. To Midnight Phone: 245-3049 STAFF OFFERS SPECIAL THANKS . . . P For their help in making this yearbook possible, the 1970 SANDITE staff would like to extend our thanks to some of the people whose assistance we frequently overlooked: Mr. Barry Keeler, commercial art instructor, designed the cover and loaned us the talents of four of his students, Cindy Beck, jim Harvey, Pam Niles and Donna Teaff. Beverly's Photography Studio provided us with pictures of the seniors and the Sandite royalty. Also providing us with pictures was Enterprise School Photos, who took many of the or- ganization pictures and the individual pictures of the underclassmen. Mr. Nowmen Glenn, our American Yearbook Company representative, we thank for the numerous afternoons he had to drive to Sand Springs, to bring us supplies and humor Mr. john Beck with his fishing tales. Mr. Thurman Garrett and Mr. Loren Stephenson served on a screening committee to help in the selection of the Sandite Queen and King. Mr. Garrett, along with the student council, helped plan the coronation assembly for Sandite Queen and King. Our deepest appreciation goes to the long-suffering teachers of CPHS for all the class hours the staff was allowed to miss in order to complete the yearbook on time. To them we apologize for schedules that were thrown out of whack and make-up work that caused more overtime grading than usual. To our patrons we extend a very special thanks because without them we never could have published the 1970 SANDITE. Last but not least, we thank all of you students who bought a yearbook. Without you all our work wouldnit have meant a thing. Keep up the good work - BUY THE 1971 SANDITET Y! pn-., W af' Perhaps I should use this space to present my philosophy on life, or something equally as sober- ing, however, I can't feel too philosophical sitting amid rubber stamps and carbon paper Cno pity please, for this is just an editor's lot.J Or maybe I could give you a hard-sell-hit-them-in-the-mouth- and-jar-their-senses sales pitch about how this is the best annual we've ever published, but you've heard it before, and no doubt you'll hear it again, so I wonit waste your time with it. In all seriousness, however, I would like to make a confession. At the beginning of the school year I was very apprehensive about how the staff would perform, since only four fmyself included? had had any previous experience. But, I was pleas- 184 antly surprised by the way they adapted them- selves to the situation, and I sincerely believe that this is the best staff I've worked with. Even though they had several moments of chaos throughout the year Cas all staffs dol, they still deserve any and all praise they receive. And, of course, special thanks to Mrs. Kathi Osburn for all of her help and advice. I think I had better stop now, before I fall into maudlin sentimentality. I hope we have made something of lasting worth, something which will remain until another day when we look back.
