We know that life at the Charles Hart Junior High School can notbe related in black and white be cause of a multitude of realities which are too intangible but, perhaps in some small way we hope to preserve the friendships which we all hold so dear. If this book serves only to bridge the past and bring to mind the priceless memories of joy and pleasures of the year just gone, It will have served its purpose. ' With these thoughts, we proudly present to you, the students, your 1971 F LAMIN G TORCH . JAMES CARTER, PRINCIPAL CHARLES HART JUNIOR HIGH SC-HOOL C DEDICATION We, the Class of 1971, dedicate with respect and appreciation the 1971 FLAMJNG TORCH to you, Mr. james Carter. Through your inspiration and guidance, our education has been extended and we have been able to pry open the doors of ignorance and stand at the threshold of a dazzling and challenging world. As you encourage us to go forward inspired and undaunted, we want to leave the FLAMING TORCH of 1971 as a token of our gratitude. In addition to this our first gift, we reserve for you a cherished place in our memories and in our hopes for the future. 4 f, EDUCATION SHGULD oPE DOORS p Q . PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE Your three years of studies have opened to each of you the door to many new areas of interest. My hope is that you now look forward eagerly to the challenging task of opening doors in higher education or in the field of the working world. A door which should be opened to every student is the one bearing the sign Pro- mise of America. The right to work and to play, the right to be himself, and to become whatever his personaliw, talents, and vision can make him -- this is the pro- mise of America. I challenge you to always seek excellence in your education. You must look for excellence not in abstract intellectual activity, the fine arts, craftsmanship, and technical work, but also in human relations. The American promise is that excelf- lence shall be recognized in many kinds of achievement but that apart from this every man is judged upon the excellence of his character. This is but the first challenge to you. There will be many others to follow. Meet them with determination and a burning desire to achieve and new doors will continue to open before you. It is my hope that you will always rise to the challenge of new ideas and will always find joy and satisfaction in opening these doors. 5 a gm se.vww.sf:.v: SNQ N is. 2 Xmigxiigw, N W ,. ' Realizing that school develops a person academically as Well as socially, we eighth graders are takiny., advantage of. each provided opportunity because we have great wells of talent which may benefit us and , i society. For this reason, eighth graders are heard on the Student Council ,, vocalizing the wishes of students, We are seen on the newspaper and yearbook staffs, we are seen moving dynamically across the basketball court, gliding gracefully in rhythmic motion during various school programs. We are, indeed, involved in the total school environment. Several of our peers make the honor roll and join the Honor Society each advisory. Therefore, we realize that eighth graders are too committed to the entire school to ever be thought of as a forgotten group. ' Y A Mrs. F. Robinson Charlene A.
