Rhonda Ramona Annette You look at me like I have horns on Jackie Corpus Wilson named governor” Geof Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson and a Milby High School Senior, was elected “governor” at the annual Boys’ State convention held in Austin this year on the University of Texas campus. The Boys and Girls State convention is held yearly to help students learn about the democratic electoral processes from the municipal to state level with actual participa- tion. Delegates from the high school in every community in Texas at- tend. Expenses of Milby students attending were paid by the school with the help of the American Legion Chapter. Wilson, interested in a political career, decided to run for an office at the convention and to run for the top office because of the honor of the office. This is where the work began. The task had to be accomplished over- night, which meant a sleepless night for Wilson and his staff. An excerpt from a letter from Diane’s Mother: Diane was a brave, loving, and caring person. When she knew she was dying she asked “why me” and we cried, but after that she wanted the doctors to use her to find a cure for cancer for the next person. The treatments were so hard on her, but she never let anyone know. She tried to make it easy on her father and me and her two sisters, by planning her own funeral. It is held every year around Halloween. The proceeds from the talent show provide scholarships supported by the National Honor Society. I have several reasons: the fact that I graduated from Milby, its proximity to my home, and most of all, the atmosphere of the school itself. The administra- tion is supportive, the faculty is friendly, and the students are generally enthusiastic and cooperative. With all these incentives, why should I want to leave? What changes are most outstanding? The most outstanding change is in the physical plant of the school itself. When I came there was the “new wing.” Then there was the “new new wing,” and finally there was the explosion of all the additions for the magnet and vocational schools. Any other changes have been gradual, so 1 have adjusted to them gradually. The Bisonettes take part in all school func- tions and athletic activities. The club sponsors the annual Winter Whirl Dance in December and the Sweetheart Dance in February. Pom Squad is an Honorary Division within the club. The Squad performs at every football game. We are very proud of them because it is the only one of its kind in H.I.S.D.
