He came out of nowhere special, a small town named Cooper, Texas. His folks were no one special. W. I. STEVENSON was a smart boy, but not too smart. He told funny stories. He was energetic and kind.

Young W. I. worked at odd jobs, pur- sued an acting career in his backyard with penny show. W. I. played hard too, especially as a southpaw pitcher for his team at Cooper High. Eventually he found his way into the teaching profession. And it was then that people began to know there was something special about W. I. Stevenson. W. I. had a habit of expanding without changing. So it seemed perfectly natural that after graduating, he entered Texas Christian University. Never once did he refuse a job to further his education. Selling bibles, evangelist singer, and purchasing agent all became familiar to him.
