The calendar assures us that many months have passed since the term began—months filled with making new friendships, deepening old ones, improving our lives as students, and developing a realization of the serious impor- tance of preparing for the years that lie ahead. We have tried to enclose within the pages of this volume of the Buffalo many reminders of these profitable months. We hope you will like our book. Happy reading! DEDICATION The potential of any educational institution is based upon the capabili- ties of the faculty, administrative staff, airtf the quality of the student body. Therefore, we, the staff of the 1957 Buffalo, as representatives of the Student Body, wish to dedicate,.this yearbook to one who by her devoted efforts to promote school spirit and raise the educational standards of this school has, like Chaucer’s Oxford Scholar, always been a person who Would gladly learn and gladly teach”.................. The chorus stages the annual operetta, the proceeds from the performance being used for the benefit of the Music Department. “A Waltz Dream” was their 1956 production. It is a performing organization which has participated in the Easter Sunrise Service for the last ten years. An annual trip is made to Conroe, where they participate in the Southeast Texas Music Festival. To become a member of the Mixed Chorus, one must have musical talent and good con- duct grades. ( The dancers rest between numbers during the Senior Prom, May, 1956. Has the bell rung? Yes, Hurry! Lazy bones? Oh, no! Merely resting . SI ■‘M Our librarians, Mrs. Caraway and Mrs. Coffman, work to make the library one of the focal points of student interest. Mrs. Spencer and her young artists make the art room one of the most “colorful” places in Milby. Craft students listen to instructions from Mrs. Heickman as they model in clay. Who are these diligent ones? Mr. Williams and some of his future scientists. If you can’t guess who these are, read the sign on the board. What are these chemistry students doing? Making fire, so they say. i Mr. Thornton to his young farmers: “This, boys, is a chisel.” What! No chickens? No rabbits? A perfect set-up; a work- bench, a group of boys, with Mr. Koehler supervising. Put that wheel on right, boys. Mr. Koehler is watching. So this is the way Mr. Corder spends his spare time! Mr. McConnell and Mrs. Tebow pause to ponder a point, but Mrs. Skel- ley, as usual, grades notebooks. Mr. (“Chief”) Sylestine, our head custodian, keeps a warm heart and a warm furnace. That’s Mr. Niemi, trying to hide behind a loaded desk. PEP RALLY The cheer leaders prepare to lead the student body in a yell. Kneeling, they give their best for dear old Milby. When the pep is highest, the cheerleaders go into gym- nastics. And this strange contraption? A shaper—whatever that is. What is this fascinating machine? A metal lathe, the boys say. Serving a big round of cheese? No, only doing foundry work. ES Mrs. Jarry’s girls can cook so well that they enjoy eating the foods prepared in their own kitchen. Stirring up a batch of candy is fun. Miss Stockard’s sewing stu- dents study the quality and color of materials. 1 as And the band played on— leading the music for the rally. The football field as it looks from the roof erf the south wing. What’s cooking? A newsy stew, of course, for it’s the Plainsman staff at work.
