Date Team We They Sept. 15 THOMAS JEFFERSON 6 18 Milby looked fine at the beginning with High and Coffer running for a touchdown in two minutes, but Jeffer- son's speed and power were too much in the last five minutes. Oct. 2 BALL HIGH 6 12 Tom had a good night for passing; so he passed the ball all over the field, but tough breaks and a wet field gave Ball High the game. Oct. 7 SAM HOUSTON 27 0 Coffer had a field day and Tom threw an eighty-five yard strike. Oct. 14 DAVIS 0 6 The team played an outstanding game, and W. R. Lee was a rock on defense; but misfortune came when Davis took an advantage of a fumble on the two-yard line. Oct. 21 SAN JACINTO 7 0 Milby was badly outplayed, but Coffer came through with a touch- down on the kickoff of the second half. Date Team We They Oct. 28 REAGAN 7 0 Milby did it for the first time in sev- enteen years. Walter Ruthstrom had a great night besides his usual hard blocking and tackling. He went over in the second quarter. Nov. 6 AUSTIN 0 13 A disheartened Milby team was de- feated by Austin, although, Jesse Stakes pushed the Austin greats around with hard blocking. Nov. 19 ST. THOMAS 7 6 The Catholics looked good at first, scoring an early touchdown, but Milby was still in the game as Coffer made a second touchdown run on the kick- off. The line played hard against a larger line. Nov. 26 LAMAR 13 6 Coffer came through with the third touchdown on the opening kick-off. Tom also threw another long pass for 60 yards. Lamar came back hard in the second half, but Milby held. MILBY Thomas Jefferson ...................... 18 6 Ball High.............................. 12 6 Sam Houston ............................. 0 27 Davis ................................... 6 0 San Jacinto ............................. 0 6 Reagan .................................. 0 6 Austin ................................ 13 0 St. Thomas .............................. 6 7 Lamar ................................... 6 13 61 72 District 13. We won four and lost two, to finish in a three-way tie for second place with Reagan and Austin. Tom High, a three-year letterman, was one of the main reasons for success. The best passer in the state, he completed an eighty-five yard pass against Sam Houston. Walter Coffer, the back of the district, ran three kick-offs back for touchdowns, which meant win- ning three more games. W. R. Lee is the dumb boy who has proved he is smart by his great work on the gridiron for three years. John Myrick and Walter Ruthstrom are the boys who blocked Milby's greatest team to the school's greatest season in its history. aa
