Oct. 2 BALL HIGH 6 12 Tom had a good night for passing; so he passed the ball all over the field, but tough breaks and a wet field gave Ball High the game. Oct. 7 SAM HOUSTON 27 0 Coffer had a field day and Tom threw an eighty-five yard strike. Oct. 14 DAVIS 0 6 The team played an outstanding game, and W. R. Lee was a rock on defense; but misfortune came when Davis took an advantage of a fumble on the two-yard line. Oct. 21 SAN JACINTO 7 0 Milby was badly outplayed, but Coffer came through with a touch- down on the kickoff of the second half. Date Team We They Oct. 28 REAGAN 7 0 Milby did it for the first time in sev- enteen years. Walter Ruthstrom had a great night besides his usual hard blocking and tackling. He went over in the second quarter. Nov. 6 AUSTIN 0 13 A disheartened Milby team was de- feated by Austin, although, Jesse Stakes pushed the Austin greats around with hard blocking. Nov. 19 ST. THOMAS 7 6 The Catholics looked good at first, scoring an early touchdown, but Milby was still in the game as Coffer made a second touchdown run on the kick- off. The line played hard against a larger line. Nov. 26 LAMAR 13 6 Coffer came through with the third touchdown on the opening kick-off. Tom also threw another long pass for 60 yards. Lamar came back hard in the second half, but Milby held. We won four and lost two, to finish in a three-way tie for second place with Reagan and Austin. Tom High, a three-year letterman, was one of the main reasons for success. The best passer in the state, he completed an eighty-five yard pass against Sam Houston. Walter Coffer, the back of the district, ran three kick-offs back for touchdowns, which meant win- ning three more games. W. R. Lee is the dumb boy who has proved he is smart by his great work on the gridiron for three years. John Myrick and Walter Ruthstrom are the boys who blocked Milby's greatest team to the school's greatest season in its history. aa % % I o Cr ™1 M-Ww flSAVil tcJ'n Au .,S.°.ys nir £23 f5k -a lK V'v 1 V • ■ - 3; 3' Jeff Davis Picked Tosf. 7 i 'a. Milby entered three basketball tournaments this season. The first was at LIVINGSTON where they were eliminated by Lufkin in a close game. The next was at CONROE where they were eliminated by the strong Reagan quint from Houston. The third was at KATY which they won by beating Sugarland. When you apply for a job you will be asked: What can you do? If you can type, if you can write shorthand, if you cart keep books, you will get the job. But if your preparation is limited to the general education of the high school and the university, you still need something more that you can trade for a semi-monthly salary check. This is a business world. You will not fit into it until you have had business training. It is, therefore, impor- tant to you that you learn now what you are sure to need when you seek a job; not just any job, but a position that will lead to something in keeping with the time and effort you have invested in your education. The quickest, surest and least expensive way to such a position is through a course in Massey Business College. Massey guarantees satisfaction or your money refunded. You can count the threads in it and it's no different from any other piece of cloth. But a little breeze comes along, and it stirs and comes to life and flutters and snaps in the wind, all red and white and blue. Then you realize that no other piece of cloth could be like it. It has your whole life wrapped up in it: the meals you are going to eat; the time you are going to spend with your friends; the kind of things your boy or girl will learn at school; those strange and won- derful thoughts you get inside a church on the Sab- bath. Those stars in it—they make you feel just as free as a star in the wide, deep night. And those stripes— they are bars of blood to any dictator who would try to change it. Just o piece of cloth—that's all it is—until you put your soul into it and give it meaning—until we make it stand for everything we believe in and refuse to live without.
