Football? Star quarterback. Basketball? Guard for Mr. Moreman's starting tive. Baseball? Catcher for the Bantam nine, not to mention the Legion team in the summertime. Dra- matics? Ask anyone who saw Charley's Aunt or Years Ago ! President ot the Scarlet Shield and one of the more voluble members of the Student Council, Charley's departure leaves a spot that will be difficult to till. Adios! Amigo Miltenberger! r I OUTSTANDING JOYCE ARMSTRONG . . . a copper-colored pony tail and a mischievous grin . . . Many faceted Joyce came to us from the Midwest at the beginning of her junior year and literally took us by storm. An actress of note Cher Laura in Glass Menagerie held audiences spellboundl. She was an energetic member of The Jumpers an'd an excellent yell yeader. Bon Voyage, Joyce . . . KARL BERNTSEN Quick witted, and droll, Karl sparked Charley's Aunt this year with his portrayal of Brasset, the Butler. A twelve-year student, Karl tempers his excellent grades with an aftability that's hard to match. IJ CYNTHIA MANIS Vivacious and vibrant . . . a pixie with abilities: Dramatics, Student Body Secretary, winner ot the F.H.A. Homemakers award in her Senior Year. Bound for W.S.C. in the tall, Cindy plans on teaching. Home economics, naturally! SENIORS .. X ANN SOPER Deep, dark eyes, burnished hair, and the smile of a Madonna . . . Ann Soper. Her performances in Our Town, Years Ahead, and Glass Menagerie, illustrate her ability as an actress. Her commun- ity and church work attest to her worth as a person. Helpful in F.H.A., Girls' League, and Student Council, we will miss quiet, re- sponsible Ann next year . . . OUTSTANDING JACK HANEY Versatility incorporated! The bright eyes and the boyish smile high- light a keen intellect. This year Jack, our Student Body President, made the office more than titular. His indefatigable effort and en- thusiasm have been apparent throughout his high school years. A competent athletic manager, star Thespian, and a skillful club and committee organizer, .lack enters college this fall to pursue a law career. KAY FISHER Always cheerful and reliable, Kay has combined excellent grades with an extracurricular schedule that would leave less energetic beings gasping. Girls' League Prexy, active Student Council member, Thespian, and head of numerous committees, smiling Kay will be hard to replace. :Bb 1 . 6 i M .4 BOB MEYER . . . of the crew cut, the twinkling eyes and the perpetual grin. Every member of the band contributed to the successful season they have had this year through their co-operation and indefatigable efforts. By practicing and playing for football games, the band got off to a very early start. Their clever marching arrangements mixed with several simple dance steps have won them the title of the Dancing Band. This is Director Corporan's third year with the band and we, the students of Clarkston High School, are indebted to him for the fine programs the band has presented for us this year. The feed was held November 26, at the Lewis and Clark Hotel. The high spot of the meal is the announcement of the winners of the Inspirational and Captain's trophies. The trophy is presented by the football coach to the player whose teammates have elected him the member with the best attitude, displayed both at practice and during games This year, Leroy Walker, the man with iersey number forty-one, was chosen by his teammates for this honor. This award is not given to the best player on the team, but to the member whose determined spirit and hustle gives the Bantams a necessary push that is greatly responsible for the success of our grid seasons The A squad also voted for an honorary captain to represent their team for the current year. To be chosen as Captain is to be officially informed of the esteem in which your fellow players held you. This year's genial senior tackle, Bob Meyer was elected Captain of the 1957 Bantam gridders. Bob's pleasant disposition, posi tive leadership, and murderously-hard blocking will be long remembered by both his teammates and his opponents in this, his final year of high school football. This year the turnout tor girls' sports has increased immensely. These girls vvho are interested in acquiring good sportsmanship, skill, and various healthful recreation practices have all enioyed the intramural program directed by Miss Martha Hovve. During the Speedball season these girls were vvilling to devote their after school hours to try tor the championship. In Volleyball they were called upon to get out of bed in time to be at school and on the courts by 8:00. This year the competition for the varsity badminton team was nip and tuck all the way. The Sophomores by their keen desire and alert interest really kept the standing members on their toes. The team has planned to enter several tourna- ments this year and they hope to bring home many coveted awards. Highlighting the season is the lnland Empire Tournament at Spokane, Wash- ington, on March 29. This is the goal for which every member strives. The Banana Belt Tournament is held here in our own gym each March. As we go to press the would-be participants are arising early in the mornings for their much- needed practice. FOLLOW ME! This group of girls assisted Miss Martha Howe in her Physical Educa- tion classes. They led exercises, dem- onstrated the various skills and acted as counselors for the younger girls. Qiirv- fi Wicked Witch Mary Ann Scarbach dangles some tempting looking grapes before Joyce Armstrong and James Smith while hungry-looking Sue Ward watches in this sequence from Hansel and Gretelf' presented March 21 and 22. THE RAI MAKER Lizzie was a drought-country ranch girlwa good cook-but a little plain. Her menfolks were worried that she'd wind up an old maid. Her father and brothers brought home their bachelor friends and even tried to get the sheriff to marry her. Then Starbuck came . . . The Rainmaker. He really didn't know much about bringing rain, but he could talk a bird out of a tree. He even got Lizzie to listen to him . . . The Rainmaker, directed by Mr. Jack Watkins, was the last of four plays produced at Clarkston High School this year. The cast included Sue Ward, David Smith, Dave Hirzel, Gar Mock, Lawrence Walters, John Kramer, and Ron Storey. ' , 5 gill qi lx XX BASEBALL FIRST ROW: D. Vedder, G. Candler, J. Davis, J. Top batting averages were held by seniors Charlie Miltenberger and Pete Moreman. Other graduating seniors holding down major positions for the Bantam Nine were Ron Loomis, Eddie Gustin, and LeRoy Walker. Coach Vern Moreman's cindermen had an exceptionally successful season this spring. They attended seven meets in all and came home from the Bi-State tourney bearing two trophies, the first place award and the 880 yard relay prize. Graduating senior Bob Powers was elected captain by his teammates, and speedball Dave Ogle received the annual inspirational award. Twelve men lettered this year, tive of whom will return in '59.
