The entire intramural program for the girls was under the able and spirited direction of Miss Martha Howe. There were three basketball leagues this year, or- ganized according to the skill and experience of the girls. Our intramural program this year was doubly enjoyable because of the fine, expansive recreational facilities of the new gymnasium. WATKINS 4'Deadline next Fridaylw So echoed the shouts of Patty Knowles, the editor of the Annual, and Mr. Watkins, our advisor. The deadlines were met and one of the best Annuals ever to come out of Clarkston High School was produced. Excellent coverage of activities, dances and sports were highlights of this year's Bantam. Through the guidance of Miss Knowles and Mr. Watkins, the Annual staff was inspired to do their utmost in the production of the Annual. The students can well be proud of their Annual now and ten years hence when their memories of High School days are brought back when they thumb through their '57 Bantam. High School days can be cherished with an Annual of this calibre. tb Advisor: MRS. mcmzs e dad Hot off the pressl Yes, it was your school paper, the Scarlet and Black, conveying to you the news of school activities, student life. sports data. and other campus occurrences which were of interest to the student hody throughout the school year. Reporters were assigned special articles or events to cover which would become their responsibility forthe following issue. Iinder the skilled guidance of Klrs. Dacres. the Scarlet and Black staff put out interesting editions of the paper. The coverage of student activities by the paper has increased the knowledge of other stu- dents of the many accomplishments of the various clulvs and has also increased the prestige of these organizations. NFUTURE BUSINESSNIEIV' Your change. siri' is the oft-repeated term that will never be forgotten by a stu- dent of Distributive Educa- tion. These students are re- quired to participate in both class study and individual work for merchants in the numerous valley stores which are working in con- junction with the Distribu- tive Education program. Under the expert direction of Mr. Poole the class has learned the delicate points of the business world. All the hours spent during the year learning the essentials of good business transactions will aid those who have taken this course in any field they may choose. HLITTLE HELPERSN Have you seen some girls coming in early? If so, they were probably some of Miss Howeis Y. L. girls coming in to help her prepare for the day. These girls were chosen from the Junior Y. L. group because of their apt- ness and ability. Their duties include helping Miss Howe during intramural games. caring for equipment, re- cording the game results, and small details during their individual gym period. The help rendered Miss Howe by these girls has been instrumental in relieving large burdens of minor de- tails from her and in allow- ing the girls to share some responsibility. with a feel- ing that their work is appre- ciated. There were four Juniors and one Senior who made up the pep squad. Nedra White was the Senior Yell Leader, Margy Stalter, Marjean Baker, Joane Lane, and Cay Fite were Junior Yell Leaders. Gay was the Yell King. The Yell Leaders this year introduced many new cheers to create more enthusiasm at the games.
