J. l-IARMON The success of a high school depends in a large measure upon the loyalty and spirit of its student body. I refer to that type of loyalty and tradition that impels the student to keep continually in mind the honor and prestige of his high school and to guide his conduct accordingly. The tradition of real friendliness and open-minded accept- ance by all our students of every new boy and girl regardless of race, creed, color, is a tribute to our school and our American way of life. The loyalty of the people of the community to our schools is a tradition long established by former graduates of our high school and who now live in Clarkston and take an intense interest and pride in the accomplishments of their sons and daughters. Many of our graduates have risen to the top in their chosen field. Several have received National recognition in art, athletics, music, writing, and scientific fields. This type of loyalty is reflected in the determined and competitive spirit of our athletes, public speakers, music groups, future farmer boys, and debaters to excel in their work. The student that wants his high school to be of the first rank will not permit or go unchallenged in his presence a slanderous remark concerning the character of his high school because the welfare and success of the school will be his success.
