L.S. Students Keep Orderly Shelves 11 Running an efficient library, and keeping books in proper order, is a big job for library assistants. Under the watchful eye of Mrs. Carr, stu¬ dents learn procedures for checking, shelving, and cataloging books on many various yet specific subjects. All books are cataloged and shelved in specific order. As busy as the guidance office is, it would seem that Owen is a school full of very uncertain students, but considering the confusion over class scheduling, tests, scholarships, and college entrance exams, we see the importance of our guidance counselors. Miss Hanlon and Mrs. Conger are always ready to give answers and advise to the many varied questions of students. Check-out and check-in are the most common procedures. D.E. Conveys Important Business Training Students Unravel the Education Wholesale! Students anxious to get into business immediately after graduation find Distributive Education to be an excellent preparatory course. In striving to promote business knowledge and skill, D.E. includes training in wholesale, retail, and service dis¬ tribution. Operation of Gears Few people care to wait until they are eighteen before being allowed to drive a car. Driver Education, with its thirty hours of classroom train¬ ing, and six hours of behind the wheel experience, makes it possible to obtain a driver’s license at sixteen. Lowering of the minimum age is more than offset by the improvement in a driver ' s ability and attitude as a result of this special training. Nerves of steel! Younger but safer drivers is North Carolina’s goal.
