CUSS HISTIRf When did the teachers begin to have problems? Why twelve years ago of course, when the seniors of 1955 started their readin, writin and rithmetic. Some of the membe r s of the class had the privilege of starting a few years ahead of the others, but they were nice enough to wait onus so that we could all graduate together. Then there are those who want to graduate with the rising Junior Class - so we will leave them behind and hope they have fun next year. Looking back over the past, we find that we have many memories, some of which are happy, some of which are sad, and some we had just rather forget! Written below are some of the memories that we will always remember with much pleasure. Brighter Moments at Blac k Mountain As Freshman we remember: the first day of high school. . .the excitement of the Smoky Mountain Bowl and Soco Cap. . .the Mar s Hill and Buncombe County Junior Tournaments. . .the Buncombe County Football Champions . . .Mr. Byrd ' s Physical Ed. Class. . .the F. H. A. Initiation. . .Katherine and Grace in the first May Day. . .the beginning of our band. . . As Sophomores we remember: the r i v a 1 r y between the sophomore and the senior girls. . .the senior boys. . .the girl ' s basket¬ ball team winning the County Championship. . .the Beta Club Initation. . .the second straight Bun¬ combe County Football Championship. . .Majorettes, . . As Juniors we remember: the magazine sale for the purpose of raising money for the Junior- Senior Banquet. . .the basket¬ ball bus. . .bringing cars to school. . .the Halloween dance. . .another football Championship. . . thethrill of receiving class rings. . .the basketball and football banquets. . .the Junior-Senior banquet. . .the Prom. . .our girls winning a trophy in track. . .the Latin Club Initiation. . . As SENIORS we remember: our sponsors, Mrs. Perley and Mrs. McCoy. . .the Annual staff. . .the Sadie Hawkins dance. . . moving to Owen High School. . . Memories at Swannanoa As Freshmen we remember: the crushes on Mr. Neil. . .the time we out-did the seniors and won the title of Halloween Queen for Sara. . .the excitement of basketball season. . .the tryouts for football and for cheerleading. . . the invitations some of the girls received to the Junior-Senior Banquet. , .Bon fires. , . As Sophomores we remember: the exhibitions our square dance team put on. . .the State Beta Club Convention. . .the new basket¬ ball coach, Johnny Shaver. . .the S Club Banquet. . .class picnic at Royal Pines. . . As Juniors we remember: the talent and style show. .. .raising money for the J unior-Senior Banquet. . .Barbara as football Queen. . .Phyllis, our Junior President. . .dating the Senior boys. . .the trip to Royal Pines. . .the baseball team in the finials of the Buncombe County playoffs. . . As Seniors we remember: the excitement of finally being Seniors. . .the day we got our class rings. . .the masquerade party . . .our wonderful sponsor, Mr. Medlin. . . At Owen High we will never forget these events: the excitement of moving into a new school. . .the Warhorses becoming Buncombe County Cham- pions-the fourth Championship in a row for Coach Buff Humphries. . .Roy Burleson, Dan Reese and Michael Jolly making the Optimist Bowl squad. . .the girl ' s basketball team going to the finals in the Buncombe County Tournament and losing to North Buncombe by two points. . .Joyce, Buzzie, Patty and Dale chosen All-tournament. . .having our pictures made for the Annual. . . So, as you can see we have many things to remember when we are old and gray! We couldn ' t have possibly mentioned all of the many memories we have had, but these few are some of the dearest to us.
