We should like to express our apprecia¬ tion and gratitude to those who have given us the most valuable gift that is possible for us to receive. That gift of incalculable value is our education—though to what measure this education will benefit us remains to be seen. 2 Dedicated to FARRAR W. HOWARD, M.D. We, the Senior Class, dedicate this, THE 1967 CHARLES CITLAN, to Farrar W. Howard, M.D. We appreciate greatly the many services he has rendered to the county and his whole-heart¬ ed interest in the activities of the school and the community. As Doctor and as Chairman of the School Board, his time is doubly precious, yet he seems to find time for a smile and a friendly word of encouragement for all. V MR. CHARLES W. KRAUSE Principal Our principal came to us from Man¬ chester High School in Chesterfield Coun¬ ty, where he had served as Director of Guidance since 1960. He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Richmond, a B.D. degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School, and a M.S. in Ed. degree from the University of Richmond. His understanding of people from his experi¬ ence as both a pastor and a counselor has enabled him to guide the students and fac¬ ulty of Charles City Higli School in a very fine way this past ye; FACULTY Mrs. Anne Gunderson Mrs. Evelyn Krause Mrs. Florence McCall Mr. Jim Moore Mrs. Anne Gerhart Mrs. Helen Graves Mrs. Hazel Lampkin Mrs. Margaret Owen STAFF MRS. To our staff. . . Without our staff, our school could not function. Although at times we complain, we are really grateful for the work that they do. The bus drivers begin and end our day. At times we question the beginning, but for the end we are always grateful! The cafeteria workers, under the manage¬ ment of Mrs. Owens, have done their best to prepare nourishing meals to keep us going through the day. Before and after school, Mr. Crawley and crew undertake the gigantic task of cleaning up our school. To all these people who keep us going, we express our heartfelt thanks. Mrs. Gerheart, Mrs. Graves, Mrs. Gwens, Mrs. Royal and Mrs. Gunderson are ready to roll. 8 SEATED—Mrs. M. P. Richardson. For twelve long years we have looked forward to graduation day; and now that it is near, we face it with great expectations and with hesitation. Soon we must leave our friends and the familiar routine of the school day. We must find a new place for ourselves in the world. But we shall long remember the hard work, and the fun and excitement of our school days. 9 LYLE EDWARD BROWNING Lyle” SCA 2,3,4,5; President 5; Honor Council 4,5; Class President 5; Class Vice President 4; Glee Club 1; Forensic 3,4,5; KVG 4,5; Monogram Club 2,3,4,5; Basketball 2,3,4,5; Basketball Co-Captain 5; Track 3,4,5 MARTHA JANE DUKE Martha” SCA 1,2,3,4,5; SCA Representative 5; Beta Club 4,5; Glee Club 1,2,3,4; Forensics 3,4,5; Library Club 2,3,4; Science Club 2,3,4; Pep Club 2,3,4,5; Monogram Club 3,4,5; Basketball 1,2,3,4,5; Co-Captain 5; Basketball Softball 2,3,4,5; Cheerleading 5 10 JANET YATES EARGLE Janet SCA 2,3,4,5; SCA Secretary-Treasurer 3,5; Honor Council 3; Class Secretary-Treasurer 4; Class President 3; Glee Club 2,3,4; Library 2,3; Science Club 2,3,4; Monogram Club 2,3,4,5; Basketball 2,3,4,5; Basketball Co-Captain 5; Softball 3,4,5; Cheerleading 2,3,4,5; Captain 5; Cheerleading BILLY RAY GROSS Billy SCA 2,3,4,5; KVG 4,5 11 PORTIA MAXINE JONES ”Poe Poe SCA 2,3,4; SCA Assistant Secretary 3; Glee Club 5; Dramatics Club 1,2,3; Dramatics Club President 1,2; Guidance Council 3; Library Club 1,2,3,4,5; Science and Math Club 3; Cheerleading 2,3 SUSAN MAE JONES Sue SCA 2,3,4,5; SCA Vice President 2; School Choir 3,5; Forensic Club 5; Dramatics Club 1,2; Dramatics Club Secretary 1; Science and Math Club 1,2 12 LINDA GALE MARABLE ’’Linda” SCA 2,3,4,5; Glee Club 2,3,4,5; Dramatics Club 2,3,4,5; Library Club 2,3,4,5; Science Club 2; May Court 4; Softball 2 BONNIE HELEN NANTZ ’’Bonnie” SCA 1,2,3,4,5; SCA Representative 2,3; Beta Club 4,5; Class President 4; Class Secretary-Treasurer 2; Glee Club 1,2,3; Forensic 1,5 ; Library Club 1,2; Monogram 4,5; Basketball 1,2,3,4,5; Cheerleading 3,4,5 13 MARY ANN PYLES Mary Ann SCA 1,2,3,4,5; Representative 2,5; Honor Council 3; Beta Club 4,5, Vice-Pres. 5; President of Class 3; Vice-President of Class 4; Class Secretary-Treasurer 4; Glee Club 2,3,4; Forensic 4,5; Library 2; Science 2,3; Pep Club 2,3,4,5; Monogram 4,5; Basketball 1,2,3,4,5; Softball 2,3,4,5; Cheerleading 4,5 JAMES ALDEN RICHARDSON Jimmy SCA 1,2,3,4,5; Vice-President Class 5; Glee Club 2,3,4; Forensic 3,4; Library 2,3,4,5; Pres. 4; Science 2,3,4; Vice-Pres. 4; KVG 4,5; Monogram Club 2,3,4,5; Basketball 2,3,4,5; Co-Captain 5; Baseball 2,3,4,5 14 Brenda Louise Waitman Brenda” SCA 2,3,4,5; SCA Council 2,3; Class Secretary-Treasurer 4; Glee Club 2,3; Library 2; Dramatics 2; Pep Club 2,3,4; Monogram 2,3,4,5; Basketball 2,3,4,5; Softball 2,3,4,5; Cheerleading 3,4,5; Miss Charles City 3; May Court 3,4. Here we are, busily working on the annual, under the stern supervision of Mrs. Viar. We did not realize what it would take to turn out an annual, but we met the task head on. The end is near and you will be receiving your 1967 CHARLES CITIAN. We sincerely hope it will reflect the long hours and energy of our sponsor and the trials and tribula¬ tions of the annual staff. May it recall fond memories of the past year. 84 °!2 ££ V ' -- ' c ? ' C V, „ x - v ' ■ tZ- « •- , ■ . U L. 7 Z? z . cZ i s £ lci Ut nJ-udioJ- ei Iaa- 0 Q.
