Zhe Senior Class of 1957 Class History In September 1945 our class embarked on the journey through the halls of formal education. We arenow endingthe first part of this jour¬ ney. These twelve years have been happy and enlightning. The only one of the original first grade class which is here now, is Ethel. The four boys started at different schools and moved to Charles City later. George started in C a 1 i f o r n i a and came here in the first grade; Harold started in Tazwell and came here in the first grade; Ashby started in Richmond and came here in the third grade; and Sandy started at Varina and came to Charles City in the fourth grade. Ethel has been the only girl in our class for two years. She should consider this a great honor to graduate with four boys of such high char¬ acter and ability. As we look on our grade school days we see that it was there that we got the foundation for our high school learning. We had such able teachers as Mrs. Walker, Miss Ella, Mrs. Nance and Miss Haupt. We will always remember these people and thank them for starting us along our way. When we came into the eighth grade in ' 52 we really thought life had begun. But as the custom is, we were left out of everything, for we were only eighth graders . The next year, however, things were dif- fe rent. We played on the athletic teams and became a part of high school. As the years went by we studied and played and waited for the year when we would be seniors. Now that the year has arrived we are sorry in a way that it is here. We are glad to finish school so we can go on with our life but we are sad in having to leave Charles City. We have had fun here. These days will always be remembered and whenever we are thinking, we will think about and cherish these wonderful days.
