we Cgjwloerinfencfenf d eddage Many times we have all wished for an Alacldin,s Lamp. XVe associate the classic tale with our dreams. That has been true of people for many generations, for they have dreamed as you and l. Dreams-to think idly-to pass in reverie. The land of dreams-the region of fancy or imagination. Dream- er-a visionary-one who forms or entertains vain schemes. All of us at some time have entered into the mysteries of this fantasy world. But most have returned to reality to find it requires more than The Lamp or fantasy for worthwhile accomplishments. As Goethe so stated when he said, Happy is the man who early learns the wide chasm that lies between his wishes and his powersf' A modern example is our present world position. We have wished too long: now we must develop our in- dividual and national potential. You are all eye witnesses and living in an era of great changes-greater than the world has ever exper- ienced. This is an era of atomic energy, hydrogen bomb, missiles, earth satellites, and space travel almost a reality. There is an entirely new concept of power and energy. But the greatest of these is Man's-Your potential. You are witnessing the fruition of many endless hours of toil by some remembered and some almost forgotten scientists who dreamed and then worked hard to acquire knowledge Mr. David L. Glunt that moved all this a step closer to reality. As awe inspiring as these are we must never lose sight of God, the Great Planner, who placed it all here for Man to develop-by dreams and toil. You, the Class of 1958, are maturing in an age of amazing and exciting miracles. Dream, but back it with study and the acquisition of knowledge to stay abreast of this space traveling speed at which the world is moving. We shows you developing peace with sincerely hope and pray that we have sparked the light in your Aladdin's Lamp and it the way for further study and acquisition of knowledgeg that you may have a part in this great light that is growing brighter each generation that Man someday may live at God and his neighobors. Congratulations to the Cougar Memoir staff and your sponsor, Mr. Caruso, for this light on your high school record. It is the result of dreaming and imaginationg then brought back to reality by hours of hard work. Eleven

Graduation from high school is not the endg it is .jfte Qincapaf ,SjoeaL5 The story of Aladdin and his magic lamp has been a favorite for many years. Old and young alike find in it those things which appeal to the imagination. The spirit of youth with all of its dreams and hopes for the future is indeed a part and parcel of this story which has lived in the best known literature for so many cen- tunes. All of us dream. Three years ago as you first en- tered the open doors of Charleroi High School your future had meaning because you wanted the diploma which it offered at the end of the trail. Wishing, or rubbing a magic lamp, didn't make it come true. It took more than that, including some hard work and a perseverance to win over all obstacles. But it was the dream of the ultimate victory ahead that made giving up impossible. Congratulations, then for your first real dream of life is about to come true. only a beginning. Now you are prepared for bigger things. For some of you it means much more difficult study in collegeg for some, further training as an appren- tice for some tradeg for others, perhaps the beginning of a business experience. For all of you it is essential that a vision of a higher and larger goal supplants the wishes of childhood. Wislmesl Dreams! Keep them. Make them bigger and ever bigger. But most important of all, make them come true. Twelve O P Mr. Luse al the P. A. A ..1 '
