The other points were well distribttted oxer the entire sqiad. All members oi' the squad saw action in our second league victory. BRAIN VS. BRAVVN Bringing the tirst halt' oi' the season to a close, the 'Cougars traveled to Monessen Hi in what proved to be a cunning game. The game was fast-moving with Lowstuter sneaking through for 6 t oints, The long arms ot' Steve Hardobjx, lanky senior center. proved deadly as he dropped in the final bucket to give our Greyhound rivals a 12-10 win. Tex DeCarlo dropped in I3 points. and Lewis made good a charity toss for the remainder ot' the Cougar points, TOO MUCH ROSS On Friday evening. February 4, we again met the Donora Dra- gons with drastic results. The local ooys were helpless Enttore the onslaught ot Roscoe Ross. a duskj: forward. as he sjarked the Dra- gons to a 40-15 win. Gallagher and DeCarlo were the high men with 4 Qnarkers each. Later in the season. however. this game was torteited to the locals :eeause ot' the inelieibilitjf of Bert Snead and Bill Kuzemka, two Dragon stars. SHARPSHCOTING D.IAMMY On the twelfth ot' February, we hosted the Brownsville Brownies on the Jr. Hi gyn: with more heartbreaking results. A slow start by the locals gave way' to the expert shooting ot' Tong' Mainmarella. a Brownie guard. who racked up 6 fielders for 12 points. The tilt took on more interest as it progressed with the Cougars' shots becoming more accurate. The whistle sounded just a few seconds too soon, and the locals bowed out. 30-24. BYE-BYE, EDDIE The Cougars hit the road on Tuesday evening. Fedruary 15. and jogged to meet the Monongahela XVildeats. The locals started with a new combination showing Red Lowstuter and Tinsley at for- wards. Lewis jumping. and Dick Balza and Joe Butera at the sentinel posts. The Cats were at a loss without Cepaitis. VVhite, and Malena. Eddie Cepaitis left for service, and the latter two played hook. Lowstuter took the scoring honors with 11 points with the other squad members equally adding to the 38-18 victory. TIGHT SQUEEZE Friday evening of that week the Cougars traveled to the home of the California Cubs and battled their way to a 25-2-1 victory in an overtime period. The locals were not in top shape, but they finally pulled through when the seconds counted. The match was tight all the way with the locals on the short end most of the time. Red Lowstuter was again high, chalking up 11 markers to spark the locals to a return win over the Cubs. Gallaghe-r's absence was highly felt in this meet. QUICK STARTING NECESSARY VVinding up the 1944 season, the Cougars played host to the Monessen Greyhounds with heartbreaking results. The Hounds got away to a quick start but slowed down in the second halt' with the Charleroi squad continually sneaking up. At one point the Monesseners had only a 26-25 lead: but personal fouls stopped our squad. Red counted 11 times for honors with Tinsley again sec- ond with eight. George Nicksich. a sophomore. also had 5 tor the victors. The Cougars ended the season with a 5-5 record.
