Psychiatric Nursing aims to establish helpful nurse-patient relationships with emphasis on understanding behavior and purposeful use of self. By working with hospitalized patients with psychiatric disorders at Charity Hospital and Veterans Administration Hospital, students received the opportunity to gain a better un¬ derstanding of all persons and the ability to use concepts of psychiatric nursing in all areas of nursing practice. Planned experiences in¬ cluded establishing the one-to-one relation¬ ship, planning group activities with the patients, participating in various group ther¬ apies and attending the psychiatric out-patient clinci.
