Nursing is caring Fundamentals of Nursing was based upon three broad principles which were involved in the care of every patient. Basically these princi¬ ples were related to Man as a person, Man as an organism, and Man and his enviroment. These principles concerned maintaining the individuality of man, maintaining physiologic functioning in man, and protecting man from ex¬ ternal causes of illness or injury. Being the first clinical experience for the students, they learned such procedures as bedmaking, positioning and providing diversion for the patient, giving medications, doing medical treatments and other basic essentials to nursing care. Students in the baby ' s world! Obstetrics offered a variety of experiences to the students this year. These experiences included care of the premature and normal babies, care of the mother before, during and after labor, and office experiences with local obstetricians. Having cared for the babies, students learned the importance of cleanliness, careful handling, and alert observations in the care of the newborn.
