THE NIGHTINGALE PLEDGE J solemnly pledge myself before Qod and in the presence of this assembly; to pass my life in purity and practice my profession faithfully. J will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. J will do all in my power to elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping, and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my profession. The duly elected officers and representatives meet weekly to consider infraction of regulations with which the student may be charged; to discuss current prob¬ lems and to suggest improvements. The privilege of membership , the highest honor that can be achieved and enjoyed while a student nurse, is granted to junior and senior students who have maintained an outstanding scholastic average, have above aver¬ age ability in practical work, have goodmoral character and commendable spirit and attitude. The club’s activities include several sales and a style show plus costumes for Easter and Christmas plays and a complete cosmetic case for future plays. The year ' s productions were a Christmas play, an Easter play, a Comedy Skit, and Snap Judgment the first three act play to be given at Charity. The club year closed with an annual banquet and at as¬ sembly the presentation of Dramatics Club pins earned by activity participation. A primary aim of this group is to direct its members in a way of life that will bring honor and glory to God. In keeping with such purpose the Protestant Chapel has had an eventful year of spiritual activity. Points of interest in its program included regular chapel services, Bible studies and charitable assistance to the needy as well as interest in the missionary workunderway in Africa and other parts of the world. 1957 marks the third year for the Library Club to be rec¬ ognized as a functioning group of Charity. As well as the fun connected with belonging, the Junior Librarians offer valuable service to the library by sitting at the desk during the lunch and dinner hours, shelving books, keeping the Charity News Scrapbook up to date and helpingwith the card catalogue. Some of the Club Activities this year include a book sale, handling a booth at the annual bazaar and a wonderful evening meeting at which Miss O’Connor, our Student Advisor, showed some of her slides of one of her trips to Europe. JOAN KILLIAN Pre sident PAT HIGGINS Vice President Under the capable direction of Miss Emogene Gunter, members of the Glee Club have provided us with fine enter¬ tainment at various school activities held throughout the year. During the Christmas holidays, members of the Glee Club participated in the presentation of a Christmas play by the Dramatic Club. Enthusiastic members also went caroling through¬ out the hospital to bestow their cheer¬ ful melodic tidings and good cheer. A number of selections were also sung for the Easter pageant which was presented by the Dramatic Club. Among them we fine the animated rosary, daily recitation of the rosary during the month of October, recitation of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary before the meetings, May Crowning and the reception of new members into the Sodality. Other activities of the year included participation in Advent Wreath prayer s during the month of Decem¬ ber, daily Mass and Communion, distribution of Thanksgiving baskets for the poor and a Christmas party for poor chilren. The main events of the year included the annual retreat and a series of Pre-Cana lectures presented by the Rev. Louis Meteye. MARION MARCOTTE Vice Prefect SISTER URBAN Sponsor ■ . Newman Club On the first Thursday of each month the Newman Club, A Cath¬ olic Organization, holds its meetings. The members consist of L.S.U. medical students and Charity students. At the monthly meetings the members have the opportunity to hear guest lecturer s who speak on religion and its connection with the wide fields of medicine. Besides its primary function, the club sponsors school dances, wiener roasts, beach parties, com¬ munion breakfasts and a social after each meeting.
