LET’S PAUSE . . . We pause to reflect on facts about the history of our School In 1894 our school was organized by the Hospital Administrators and by the Sisters of Charity, who have been caring for the patients of this institution by governmental authorization since 1834. Since 1937 the School of Nursing has been affiliated with Louisiana State Univer¬ sity to offer the degree course. Our present Nurses’ Home built in 1939 is considered one of the most beautiful in the States. Its enroll¬ ment in that year was 268 as compared to the present enrollment for 1949 of 352 three-year students, 38 anesthesia students, 108 affiliates, 3 supplementary course, 3 Operating Room tech¬ nique and 3 post-graduate students. The Charity Hospital School of Nursing is approved by the United Sta tes Public Health Service Division of Nursing for Cadet students, the Louisiana State Department of Education to accept Veter¬ an students, the Louisiana State Board of Nurse Examiners, and the United States Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, to accept non-quota immigrant stu¬ dents. This past year has seen improvements about the building in the new weatherproofing, painting, recreational room, and new equipment for educational and recreational purposes. 1 i I 11
