This year the Y-Teen members made nutcups for the nursing homes, stuffed envelopes at Christmas time for the Tuberculosis Association, and gathered food and clothing to put in baskets for needy families. On the first Wednesday of each month, the Y-Teen holds its regular meeting. Some of the social high- lights of the year were the bonfire and songfest, the Christmas decorating party, the Mother-Daughter tea and the annual Rose Banquet in honor of senior members. To pay for their various expenses the Y-Teen had various moneymaking proiects. They published a newspaper four times during the year, sold Christmas greens, and sold greeting cards. Y-Teen had l55 members this year. The group was divided into four class min-teen groups, each of which had its own service proiects and parties. Miss Hortense Guernsey is the group's sponsor. -44... During football season it performed as a mcrching unit at the games. ln the winter the pep band helped arouse enthusiasm at pep assemblies and at the basketball games. Since it is primarily a concert organization, the band presented many programs both for school and civic functions. This year the band started a new custom by presenting its Christmas pro- gram with the vocal music department in the new gymnasium. A large audience was present. As a special honor, one of the band mem- bers, Ron DeBok, was chosen to play in the All State Band, which presented its program at KRNT Theater in Des Moines during Thanks- giving vacation. In the spring the band and solo ensembles entered the state contest sponsored by the Iowa High School Music Association.
