In Memoriam Chardon High School pays tribute to the memory of Richard Durai. Dick, who was a member of the 1960 grad- uating class, lost his life in a tragic swimming accident dur- ing the summer of 1959. He was a young man of deep conviction and steadfast determination. His faith in his own ability drove him to high achievement despite any obstacle. Sickness during his earlier youth made athletic prowess unlikely, but Dick's burning desire and refusal to surrender to the odds against him gained for him a place on the track team. The same qualities would, in all likelihood, have put him on the football squad in his senior year. Dick's ability to set his sights on a definite goal made him the champion magazine salesman during his iunior year and gave him a coveted role in the iunior play. Yet he had also the rare ability to share a laugh at his own expense. Our lives are richer for his having passed our way.

aculiy Chardon High School is justifiably proud of her teaching staff of capable men and women. Whether over a term paper, at the board, inspecting a problem, or entering into discussion, the personality of a student is greatly af- fected morally, emotionally, and spiritually by the character of his instructor. The second side of faculty members' capabilities is pointed out in their participation in school-sponsored activities. By working at the sides of their teachers, Chardon's students develop a firm understand- ing of their educators.
