Among the original incorporators of Chapman Technical High School in 1903 was Alfred Coit. Elected secretary and treasurer of the board at that time, he has held office continually and has given without stint of his time and effort to promote the interests of the school and the Welfare of the student body. A native of this city, Iudge Coit has served variously as a member of the school board, as a judge of the probate court for this district, and as a leader in community activities since his graduation from Yale in 1887. The fact tht he did not attend Chapman Techincal High School, with which he is so closely allied, is explained when We learn that the school was not in existence at the time he was preparing for college. Judge Coit is a director of the Union Bank and Trust Company, and the president of that company since 1925. He is a Trustee of the Savings Bank of New London and a Vice President of that institution since 1922. For many years he has acted in a legal capacity for both banks. He is a Trustee of the local hospital and is secretary and treasurer of the Manwaring Hospital board. He is a member of the Ariston Club, the Rotary Club, is an active Church member, and a leader in the work of social agencies for the im- provement of the city.
