January 7,1976 ... I got the after Christinas blahs . I cut fifth period to- day and layed out in the gym. I watched the girls P. E. class Fun. I don't really know why I did it. Sometimes I can't figure out myself out. Basket- ball is coming up. Can’t wait. I saw Miss Brewer shooting baskets. You know, I like that lady ... I Mean she really cares about this place and her students. Maybe that's why they were state champs last year. I guess some teachers do care. Sure there are difference and there always will be personality conflicts, but they're not based on just the trivial mat- ter of skin color. It's like Chapman is a tune, it must be sung together. March 19, Why is it every teacher in this school waits til Friday, the last day of school in the nine weeks, to give a test? I have a test in every subject and Mrs. Waters topped it all off with a big homework as- signment. My English term paper is due today, and my darling little sister ripped off my French book. I even skipped lunch today and stud- ied the whole period in the li- brary. My friends think I've come down with some rare tropical disease or something. Last year I did not even know where the library was, yet a- lone who Mrs. Hall was. I know now! Man I gotta grad- Black History Week. Man, you'd think it was National Skip Day. Miss Moore and our class really got into a good discussion of this whole race thing. We all remembered the first days of integration when we just stared at each other in the classroom and wondered what the other was really like. Like they say, We've come a long way, baby! IN MEMORY OF SCOTT HOWARD GIDDINGS NOV. 8, 1958 - FEB. 20, 1975 Freebird” was a favorite song of Scott's and the deepness of the meaning of this song describes Scott as we think of him now. Even though Scott no longer walks among us on this earth, we still feel his pres- cence around us. His memory will always linger near us as we remember him, think of him, and love him. If I Leave Here Tomorrow Would You Still Remember Me? For I Must Be Traveling On Now, Cause There's Too Many Places I've Got to See. But If I Stayed Here With You Girl, Things Just Couldn't Be The Same. Cause I’m As Free As A Bird Now, And This Bird You Cannot Change. Lord Knows I Can't Change. Bye, Bye Baby, It's Been A Sweet Love, Though This Feeling I Can't Change But Please Don't Take It So Badly Cause The Lord Knows I'm To Blame. But If I Stayed Here With You, Girl, Things Just Couldn't Be The Same. Cause I’m As Free As A Bird Now, And This Bird You Cannot Change. And This Bird You Cannot Change. Lord Knows, I Can't Change. Lord Help Me, I Can’t Change. Theme 15
