foreword with each passing day since we began our days at chapman, we have been col- lecting memories, we have been molded into expressions of high ideals and strong beliefs, we have much to remember from our days at chapman—friendships and the joys they bring-studies and the thrill of learning-athletics and the spirit of our team and the students-honor and courage-teachers and their inspiration, these memories will guide us through the years. as you thumb through the pages of your 1971 panorama, may your mem- ories of days at chapman high school be revived, your pride in chapman be re- newed, and your love for your alma mater be rekindled. the yearbook staff of chapman high school proudly presents a book about yourself and your memories—the 1971 panorama. panorama 1971 chapman high school inman, south Carolina volume xvii editor............ co-editor......... business manager sports editor . . . advertising editor .... jane hyder . . jo anne wingo ......joe brown phi Hip underwood . . henry gramling to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. contents pne way to. . . la yf dayd Mhot fun Wet hers preparing nd planning for an jjther year. . mnyfe beach . . . burning. patty thompson, vice president; diane burnette, secretary; margretha davis, treasurer; and brenda lawter, reporter-historian, our freshman sponsors were mr. Stanley walkowicz, mrs. peggy hamrick, mr. geary jolley, mrs. natalie fleming, mr. ira fowler, and the late mrs. helen costner. gloria cooley held the title miss freshman. seven freshmen were members of the varsity football team: danny gosnell, ron collins, david smith, scott brown, randy burns, chris emory, and roger phillips. laura davenport and debra brown made the pantherette team, and hugh burnette, danny gosnell, david smith, henry jackson, roger melton, kenneth workman, boyce miller, and troy harris served on junior varsity team, junior varsity cheerleaders included libby shehan, jane hyder, karen gibson, cathy alexander, and brenda lawter. freshman baseball players were danny gosnell, david smith, and paul seay. as sophomores we have cleared the first hurdle, and are on our way. as we begin a new year, we feel a little more secure, our officers were margretha davis, president; patty thompson, vice president; cathy alexander, secretary; phil brady, treasurer; and brenda lawter, reporter-historian, mr. william frye, and mr. ashton boynton took mrs. costner and mr. walkowicz's position as sponsors. rick gentry and hugh burnette were added to the football team, david smith and hugh burnette were members of the super six varsity basketball team. brenda lawter carried the honor of miss sophomore. we move forward with courage and determination, the junior-senior was our responsibility, it was lead by brenda lawter, president; roger phillips, vice president; cathy alexander, secretary; phil brady, treasurer; barbara lambert, reporter-historian. laura davenport was bestowed the title miss junior. gloria cooley was crowned miss panorama. eighteen junior marshals came from our class, barbara lambert, debbie Stewart, ronnie thompson, and lee brown were chosen furman scholars. we came-we saw-we conquered, the responsibility of chapman is ours, the following officers were elected: phil brady, president; jackie wilson, vice president; cathy alexander, secretary; brenda lawter, treasurer, and rita hicks, reporter-historian. cathy alexander reigned as miss senior, and mary ann polk was first runner up in the miss panorama contest. student body officers included hugh burnette, president, libby shehan, treasurer, and rick cooper, corresponding secretary. danny gosnell received the honor of king teen, and kathy collins was named the betty crocker homemaker, jane hyder received the dar award. brenda lawter was crowned homecoming queen and erma penson, maid of honor. we've only begun ... just beginning not finishing. 21 22 president phil
