SENIOR CLASS HISTORY k As Freshmen we came, eager and young, ready for many things life in Chapman had to offer. Learning our way around was our first major problem. With few mistakes we soon learned our way like veteran members of C.H.S. We made new friends and all of us made up the Freshman Class of Chapman High School. Our class officers were President, Patsy Hammett; Vice-President, Brad Johnson; Secretary, Alice Trout; Treasurer, Kaye Scruggs; and Reporter, Dale Peeler. Homeroom presidents were: Bobby Miller, Marilyn Giddings, Butch Howard, Ladson Berry, Doris Stallings, Phillip Cooley. Sponsors were: Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. H. Edwards, Mrs. Viehman, Mrs. West, Miss Linn. Lynn Gains was a Homecoming Queen Contestant. Doris Stallings was elected Miss Freshman. Kenny Burrell, Marilyn Giddings, Nancy Collins, Martha Dorman, Patsy Hammett, Judy Stephens, Dianne Ravan, and Barbara Gregory fought for our basketball team and running for our track team was Ken Burrell, Steve Schockley, Rodney Hipp, Billy Rhinehart, Joe Steadman, and Charles Atkins. Nancy Pace helped cheer our teams. As we entered our Sophomore year, we were upper-underclassmen. Our class officers were: President, Doris Stallings; Vice-President, Alice Trout; Secretary, Marilyn Giddings; Treasurer, Judy Stephens; and Reporter, Bobby Miller. Homeroom Presidents were: Joe Steadman, Ginger Trull, Lynn Gains, Sherry McDowell, Julie Bishop and Lee Cleveland. Sponsors were Mrs. Belcher, Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. H. Edwards, Miss Linn, Mr. Pack and Mr. Yeager. The Miss Sophomore' Title was bestowed upon Alice Trout. Nancy Skinner was crowned Miss Panorama and Alice Trout was Valentine Queen. Homecoming Contestants were Jane Burnette, Nancy Skinner, Kaye Scruggs, and Lynn Gaines. Bobby Miller, Kaye Boyter, Keith Lancaster, Darlene Foster, Pat Cochrum and Doug Wolf worked on our school paper. Joining Ken Burrell was Dennis Raines on the boy's varsity basketball team. The girls were Martha Dorman, Dianne Ravan, Barbara Gregory, Patsy Hammett, and Marilyn Giddings was manager. Our football heroes were Charles Atkins, Allen Brady, Terry Parris, Dennis Raines, David Tucker, Joe Steadman, Ken Burrell, Mike Stepp, and Randy Cambell. Cheering was done by Candy Andrews, Nancy Pace, and Kaye Scruggs. Our track team was led by Ken Burrell, Terry Parris, Ladson Berry, Doug Wolf, Joe Steadman, Billy Rinehart, Dennis Raines, Kenny Jamison, and David Tucker. Finally we became upper classmen! Officers were: Philip Cooley, President; Margaret Wingo, Vice-President; Jane Burnette, Secretary; Kaye Boyter, Treasurer; and Reporter, Alice Trout. Sponsors were: Mrs. Belcher, Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. H. Edwards, Mr. Hart, Mr. Pack, Mr. Yeager. Class beauty was Gail Davis. Candy Andrews was Crowned Miss Panorama and Lee Cleveland was first runner-up. Margaret Wingo was Crowned Homecoming Queen. We were represented by approximately twenty Junior Marshals, and Furman Scholars were Martha Dorman, Phillip Cooley, Ann Copeland, and Ladson Berry. History was made when ours was the first Junior Class to receive Class Rings. Seniors at last! The year we've been waiting for ever since we entered kindergarten. Class officers were: President, Joe Steadman; Vice-President, Doris Stallings; Secretary, Patsy Hammett; Treasurer, Lee Cleveland; and Reporter, Bobby Miller. Homeroom Presidents were: Gail Clayton, Rose Greenway, Kaye Scruggs, Sherry McDowell, Lynn Gaines, Nancy Pace, and Jane Burnette. Patsy Hammett was selected 1969-1970 Homecoming Queen and Alice Trout was picked as Maid of Honor. Contestants for Miss Panorama were: Lynn Gaines, Kaye Scruggs, and Lois Henson. Vida McGraw was chosen 2nd runnerup, and Margaret Wingo was selected 1st runnerup. Brenda Pruitt was awarded the title Miss Senior, and Julie Bishop served as an editor of the annual. In our dreams we drift back to the days we've spent at Chapman, and we smile ... But we look to the future with the spirit and strength that we've achieved at Chapman. Our last hope as seniors is that all underclassmen will learn to respect and love this school as we have done, and give her nothing less than your best... JOYFULLY WE TELL OF HER GLORY AND HER HONOR, DEAR OLE' CHAPMAN, HAIL! 27
